This summer is going to be heaven for PokemonTrading Card Game fans in Yokohama, just south of Tokyo, Japan. Event after event keeps being announced for the city throughout the summer, and the latest one has just dropped. The Pokemon Card Art Walk is set to begin August 8th, running through September 30th, across several places in the city.

Before COVID-19, Yokohama was famous worldwide for Pikachu Outbreak, a festival that took place every summer marked by hundreds of Pikachu mascot characters taking over the city. For three years, the Pikachu Outbreak has been gone, and while it is not back yet this year, several other Pokemon events have taken its place.

Most significantly, later this year Yokohama will host the Pokemon World Championships for the trading card game, making it the first Japanese city to ever host. Yokohama will also be home to the return of the Pokemon Colors exhibition, an interactive art museum in the spirit of teamLAB that lets visitors interact with digital Pokemon in a colorful, fun world.

And now, the Pokemon Card Art Walk is coming! Across several different buildings in Yokohama (the Grand Mall Park and Mark Is, Landmark Plaza, and Queen’s Square), 1000 different Pokemon cards will be on display for people to admire. And while 1000 cards may already seem like a lot, 1000 more cards will also be displayed in the Sky Building near Yokohama Station.

Across the city, there will also be oversize Pokemon cards that are identical to their original versions, which are even bigger than people! These cards have a special feature in that they let you become a part of the scene by stepping into the card for a photo, making them a memorable photo spot. They can be found in Yamashita Park, Yokohama Park, Marine and Walk open-air shopping center, Motomachi neighborhood, and outside Yokohama City Hall, along with the 3rd floor of Landmark Plaza.

Finally, Mark Is and Landmark Plaza will also host a special Pokemon Card "Flower Carpet" event, where flowers, sand, and wood chips will create giant mosaics of Pikachu and Charizard cards on the floor. The best part about these Flower Carpets is that they will be built by normal fans, who are encouraged to come and take part in building the huge mosaics on the floor.

While Pikachu Outbreak may not be back yet, Yokohama is still the place to be this summer if you are a Pokemon fan. With plenty of things to see, photos to take, and exhibitions to interact with, it's great for Pokemon fans of all ages. And if you are specifically a fan of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, there is nowhere better to spend your summer!
