A talented Pokemon fan artist is at it again, this time turning the artistic Pokemon Smeargle into a human. The charming concept has taken great inspiration from Smeargle and come up with a version that honors the original while still having a few creative twists of its own.
Smeargle was introduced to the Pokemon game series way back in Gen 2, and hasn't seen much of a significant change since. While Smeargle can't evolve, it does have a very unusual ability in its main attack Sketch, which adds an opponent's move to the Pokemon's repertoire permanently. The unusual skill fits well with Smeargle's overall aesthetic and can lead to some interesting movesets.
Pokemon fanartist endifi has shared a rendition of Smeargle as a human, which would likely be immediately recognized by any fans of the pocket monster. The human Smeargle wears a coat and hat matching the overall color and shape of Smeargle, with a pair of large, round glasses taking the place of the highlights around its eyes. Slippers and bracelets take the place of the markings on Smeargle's feet and wrists.
As one might expect, this humanoid Smeargle is also eager to create art, and can be seen painting a wave of color across the image. While Smeargle paints with its tail, to maintain the human form, this version of the Pokemon is wearing an ink tank reminiscent of Splatoon on its back, with a long cable connecting to a paint brush. It does a great job of matching the theme and iconic elements of the Pokemon without copying them outright.
This is far from the first time this particular artist has turned Pokemon into humans. Endifi has been working hard to turn every Pokemon in the game into a human version of themselves. So far, the creator has worked on Gen 1 and 2, plus some additional designs. They have a long way to go to tackle every single Pokemon, with the games now having featured over 1000 creatures. However, they have remained dedicated to the cause, giving human form to Unown, Politoed, and over a hundred other creatures. Their Gen 1 project is already complete and they're well into Gen 2, so fans may not have to wait long to see humanoid versions of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire pocket monsters.
Pokemon fanart never stops finding new inspiration to bring the iconic pocket monsters to life in one form or another. While some artists remain true to the original designs, they often look to unique mediums to create them in, ranging from wood carvings to 3D printed designs. Others choose to dramatically redesign the Pokemon themselves, or create new versions or forms of the creatures that don't exist in-game. Regardless of the form, Pokemon fans always seem to be happy to see new fanart like Endifi's design.
