A Pokemon fan artist has released an animation that imagines Eevee as a Ghost-type. The Pokemon franchise has hundreds of characters created over the years, each with a different design. Eevee remains one of the most popular since its introduction in Generation 1 games, largely thanks to its unique evolutionary line.
Eevee is a character with a form of evolution that distinguishes it from other Pokemon. The character can evolve into different types of Pokemon when the player meets certain requirements and exposes Eevee to evolution stones. Generation 1 introduced Eevee's first evolutions: Jolteon (Electric), Vaporeon (Water), and Flareon (Fire). In subsequent generations, the list of Eevee evolutions expanded with the release of five more variations of the character. Popularly known as "Eeveelutions," a fan artist decided to imagine what it would be like to augment this list with a Ghost-like Eevee.
The user that goes by alkalinesubstrate posted on Reddit the video showing the animation of the Ghost-type Eevee dubbed as Spectreon. Unlike another fanart of Eevee as a Ghost-type, this one follows a design more in line with the Eeveelutions. Spectreon is drawn in dark tones, with long, rounded ears, and almost transparent paws. The Pokemon also appears with a type of "cape" on its body, reminiscent of a ghost costume made from a blanket.
In the comments of alkalinesubstrate's post, Pokemon subreddit users praised the idea. One user asked what program was used to make the animation, and the fan artist revealed that the software Blender is being used. Other users shared ideas on how it would be possible to get a Spectreon in the game. The alkalinesubstrate video shows a work in progress, in which the fan artist plans to make adjustments to the animation and textures, and give the character a visible glowing skeleton inside the body. Eevee's evolution mechanics are something that inspires a lot of creativity from fan artists, who have already imagined other types of Eevee, including what a Fighter-type Eevee would look like.
Pokemon currently has 18 character types, with Eevee's evolutions being of the Water, Electric, Fire, Dark, Grass, Fairy, Ice, and Psychic types. The animation created by alkalinesubstrate interestingly expands the list, with a design that gives the character an appearance that nicely mimics what a Ghost-type Eevee would look like. Although Eevee doesn't have a new evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the friendly little monster remains one of the most beloved characters by players of the franchise.
