The surprise announcement of Alan Wake 2 during the Game Awards last night shocked many fans and, while very little is known about the project currently, it seems as though the band Poets of the Fall may be returning to provide more original music for the title. The music group has worked with Remedy on many of its titles, so it makes sense that it would be returning for Alan Wake 2, though nothing has been confirmed.

In a brief tweet posted by the official Poets of the Fall Twitter account, the band expressed its excitement for the upcoming sequel by saying "ALAN WAKE 2 CONFIRMED! Ok, who’s excited?! Because we are!!!" Although this statement in itself doesn't confirm anything about the band's involvement with the game, it does seem to suggest that, through endorsement of the project, it could be featured by Remedy once more.

It's worth noting that Poets of the Fall was surprisingly left out of Remedy's 2016 title Quantum Break, leaving many fans to assume that the band wouldn't be inserted into any more of the studio's work, however, after a clarifying tweet by Sam Lake, Remedy Entertainment's Creative Director, it was revealed that the band's absence was due to "dumb contractual complications" that neither party could change. Poets of the Fall was featured prominently in the studio's next game Control as the fictional band "Old Gods of Asgard" and a single off of the band's album Ultraviolet was used as one of the FBC's many testing variables.

There's always the possibility that Poets of the Fall won't make it into Alan Wake 2 if more "contractual complications" arise, however, given how excited the band seems to be for the game, it feels like a safe bet to assume that it will be making an appearance in some way or another, either as themselves on the radio or once again as Old Gods of Asgard.

It's likely that either way, fans won't know much about what's coming with Alan Wake 2 for quite some time as Sam Lake made sure to clarify in his brief interview with Geoff Keighley last night that the project will be "going dark" until around Summer 2022. There's been plenty of speculation already regarding what the game might be like given its historied development cycle, but nothing concrete is known yet other than that the game will be Remedy's first entry into the survival horror genre as confirmed by Lake.

Alan Wake 2 is in development.
