Sony officially unveiled PS VR2 in January of this year. PS VR2 comes with upgraded specs and exciting new features, including improved visuals and a host of technologies for better tracking. Sony has now released a new blog post detailing how PS VR2 aims to improve the user experience.

Probably the biggest new feature is called See-Through View, which allows players to see their surroundings while wearing the headset. As an example of its advantages, it can be used to find PS VR2 Sense controllers without taking off the device. Players can enable See-Through View by pressing the function button on the headset or by using a specific Card in the Control Center. Sony then clarifies that See-Through View is only for viewing purposes and does not record any footage.

Another handy feature lets users customize the play area for PS VR2 with the help of the PS VR2 Sense controllers and the cameras. Players can use the cameras to scan their room, before customizing the play area to fit their surroundings. They will see a warning if they get close to a boundary set up using this method, and it will likely make sure that users do not accidentally hit any furniture or object in the room.

Finally, the post makes note of PS VR2’s VR Mode and Cinematic Mode. VR Mode allows players to experience VR game content in a virtual environment. This content will be displayed in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format with a frame rate of 90Hz/120Hz. In Cinematic Mode, gamers can see the PS5 UI along with all non-VR content on a virtual screen. This mode will display the image in 1920×1080 HDR video format with support for up to 120Hz.

Additionally, PS VR2 allows users to broadcast themselves while playing by connecting a PS5 camera to their consoles. The blog post ends by confirming that Sony will soon share more information on PS VR, including the release date and the software library. As of today, Sony has already revealed noteworthy games coming to PS VR2, including Horizon Call of the Mountain and a VR port of Resident Evil Village.

The new features revealed in this blog post will likely have a significant impact on the user experience. Both See-Through View and the ability to customize the play area sound like welcome additions, while VR and Cinematic modes let users engage with PS VR2 in other meaningful ways. The post seems to suggest that Sony is gearing up for PS VR2’s launch, so fans will not have to wait long before getting more information.
