A recent hardware certification listing from Sony seemingly confirms native PC functionality for the PlayStation VR2 headset. The company confirmed earlier in the year that PS VR2 compatibility would be expanded to PCs, but didn't specify how it would exactly work. With this new listing, things are a little clearer regarding the headset's utility on PCs.

Launched in 2023 as the successor to the PS VR, PS VR2 initially received a good number of exclusive games, such as Horizon Call of the Mountain from Firesprite, Gran Turismo 7 from Polyphony Digital, C-Smash VRS, Firewall Ultra, and others. Beyond these, though, the VR headset's library has been sparse, which, when combined with the $550 price tag, has unfortunately stunted its adoption among the PS5 userbase. Demand has reportedly been quite low, to the point where Sony even allegedly paused PS VR2 production earlier this year.

Popular VR Game 'Can't Justify' PlayStation VR2 Release

The developer of a popular VR sandbox game confirms that the studio "can't justify" releasing a port for the PlayStation VR2 headset.

The company is clearly aware of the dwindling sales of the PS5-exclusive headset, and so announced that it was looking for ways to make PlayStation VR2 compatible with PC sometime this year. It appears that may be imminent, as Brad Lynch on Twitter discovered that Sony has submitted a hardware certification listing in South Korea for a "PlayStation VR2 PC adapter." As the name suggests, the adapter will enable PC players to plug in a PS VR2 headset and use it with their rigs.

Sony Could Announce PS VR2 for PC Soon

From the listing, it seems the adapter will likely be sold separately rather than be bundled with PS VR2 headsets. Price and release date details are unknown as of now, but Sony's corporate strategy meeting on May 31 could spill the beans on the headset's arrival on PC, or maybe even the long-fabled May PlayStation event, if it does come to fruition. Whenever that may be, those who have been waiting for the same can now take advantage of a substantial price drop for the PS VR2 as part of PlayStation's 2024 Days of Play promotional event, which starts today and ends on June 12.

It'll also be interesting to see whether PS VR2 exclusives like Horizon Call of the Mountain and Firewall Ultra will land on PC alongside the headset. Gran Turismo 7 has long been rumored for a PC release as well, but it's unlikely to make its debut anytime soon. Conversely, those who already own a PS VR2 as well as a gaming PC would gain access to a huge library of VR games, including the critically-acclaimed Half Life Alyx. Bringing the headset to PC could very well turn out to be a net positive for its adoption, and with its overall value proposition, it may rack up a lot of favor with VR enthusiasts on PC in the near future.
