First-party PlayStation games seem to have a certain expectation of quality to them that most people don't really find with any other publisher or distributor. First-party PlayStation games generally seem to score highly, sell well, or both. Now it seems like Sony Interactive Entertainment wants to capitalize on that success, as the company officially unveiled its new PlayStation Studios branding.

The news comes the way of gamesindustry.biz, who unveiled the branding and a video of the logo earlier this morning, much to the surprise of fans who have been eagerly waiting on even the slightest bit of news about the PlayStation 5.

According to SIE, the branding will be attached to all first-party games that Sony's Worldwide Studios "manages." That means that franchises like Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted will have the logo because they were cultivated and made by first-party studios, whereas franchises such as Death Stranding, which are made by studios not owned by Sony, seemingly won't have the branding.

While the PlayStation Studios branding will be the standard for the future, with the logo animation appearing before every first-party title, SIE says that it won't be seen on upcoming releases like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, both of which are considered the PlayStation 4's last major games. Instead, it will start appearing on first-party games that launch on the PlayStation 5 later this year.

Another interesting point is the fact that, according to Senior Vice President and Head of Global Marketing Eric Lampel, there will be variations of the logo based on different releases. This means certain games might have a custom logo animation tailored to that game specifically, similar to what Marvel Studios has done to the past few MCU movies, creating a custom logo for each one.

All in all, this is a great, simple way to bring all of SIE's first-party games under one roof. The logo, which features characters from all sorts of exclusive games including Uncharted 4 and LittleBigPlanet, gives players an easy reminder that what they are playing is going to be a similar quality to everything they see in the logo.

It's really not shocking to see SIE do this. The trend, which really started with the aforementioned Marvel Studios, has even been utilized by developers like Treyarch. It was really only a matter of time before SIE jumped on the bandwagon. It'll certainly be interesting to see what variations the company comes up with in the future.

PlayStation 5 is set to release sometime in Winter 2020.
