Microsoft revealed which titles presented during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase will also be coming to Xbox. This confirmation of multi-platform availability arrived just as Sony concluded its hour-long broadcast, which offered a first glimpse at Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gameplay, among many other things.Though the 2023 PlayStation Showcase unsurprisingly featured a variety of exclusives, many games shown at the May 24 event were also already widely rumored to be coming to both Xbox and PC. The occasional trailer even mentioned PC availability, as was the case with the long-awaited Helldivers 2 announcement. Yet other promos were less forthcoming. For example, the teaser for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater merely ended with a "coming to PS5" blurb, causing some confusion among the fandom.RELATED: Rumor: Sony Dealt a Major Blow to Star Wars: KOTOR 3 ChancesMicrosoft subsequently went online to clarify that Metal Gear Solid Delta and nearly a dozen other titles featured at the May 24 PlayStation Showcase are also slated to release on Xbox. "What a good looking group," the company wrote on Twitter while sharing an image encompassing about one-third of the PlayStation Showcase 2023 titles, all of which are also on their way to Xbox consoles. The lighthearted tweet underlines some of the recent fan criticism directed at the event, which posited that the PS5 is still too light on exclusives for a system that's nearing its third anniversary.

While that can also be said for the Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft's contemporary publishing strategy is primarily geared toward large-scale ecosystem growth, with the company treating PC, Xbox consoles, and Xbox Cloud Gaming-supported platforms as equals. That approach made multi-platform availability the default option for Microsoft's games, whereas Sony is still much more dependent on console exclusives to maintain its market share.

Yet the list of PlayStation Showcase 2023 titles that are also coming to Xbox even includes extraction shooter Marathon from Bungie, a subsidiary of Sony. However, that's likely because development of the game was already well underway by the time Sony acquired Bungie to the tune of $3.6 billion in July 2022. The rest of Microsoft's newly shared list is far less surprising, as it mostly consists of indies, sequels to non-exclusive games, and new installments in historically multi-platform series such as Assassin's Creed Mirage, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2, Ghostrunner 2, and The Talos Principle 2.

While Microsoft's publishing strategy suggests that the majority of its upcoming Xbox Showcase will be centered on multi-platform games as well, it's still dubious whether many of the titles featured at the upcoming event will also be coming to the PS5. The next Xbox Showcase is scheduled to take place on June 11, starting at 10am PST.
