Sony has revealed its PlayStation Plus games for December 2017, which will be available on PS4, PS3, and Vita. Although one might think that, considering it is holiday time, Sony is pulling out all the stops, unfortunately the selection for next month is quite lackluster.

Free Ps4 Games

For PS4 users, PS Plus will offer Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition and Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends.

Darksiders 2 is easily the highlight of the entire PS Plus collection for December. Developed by Vigil Games, Darksiders 2 is the follow-up to Darksiders 1 and sees players taking on a different horseman of the apocalypse – in this case, Death. It’s a surprisingly engaging character action game, but one that was overlooked when it initially released, now PS4 owners have an opportunity to check out the game, which should prepare them for the release of Darksiders 3 next year.

Sony is obviously going for a more family-friendly crowd with Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends, but it will be interesting to see how many actually pick up and play the game. PS Plus is geared towards an older generation of gamers that enjoy online play, and it’s hard to say how much crossover there is between those players and Kung Fu Panda fans.

Free PS3 Games

On the PS3 side, PlayStation Plus members can pick up Syberia Collection and Xblaze: Lost Memories. The Syberia Collection is technically two games in one since it features both Syberia and Syberia 2, two adventure/puzzle games similar to Myst in design. Xblaze, on the other hand, is a visual novel sequel that features an anime art style.

Free Vita Games

The PS Plus offerings for Vita include Forma.8, a pseudo platformer where players guide an orb-like object through a series of challenging puzzle rooms; and Wanted Corp, a top-down shooter that supports online co-op on PC but it’s unclear if the Vita version will offer any type of multiplayer. Forma.8 is also crossbuy with PS4, meaning it will be available on Vita or Sony’s flagship console.

Sony also wants to remind PS Plus subscribers that they can still pick up Until Dawn: Rush of Blood for the PS VR for free, but the offer only lasts until January 2nd. Although the PlayStation VR headset does come with a game collection in select bundles, Until Dawn offers a better showpiece for the technology. Keep in mind, though, that the game is an on-rails shooter and bears very few similarities with the main game.

Overall, this month’s PlayStation Plus selection is pretty lackluster, but we do recommend Darksiders 2 to any that have not played it. The rest of the games, however, are likely to be passed by.
