2022's holiday season has officially arrived, as a mixture of live-service Halloween events and digital storefront Halloween sales have begun ahead of October 31. The latest to join in the fun is the PlayStation Store, as Sony officially began this year's Halloween sale with discounts for hundreds of different games for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. There does seem to be a confusing issue currently that could trick shoppers into believing the number of games in the PlayStation Store's Halloween sale in the United States is more limited it is, however.

The issue with the PlayStation Store Halloween Sale in the United States is that the number of listed games is significantly smaller than, for example, the UK's Halloween Sale. The UK's Halloween Sale currently has over 550 games discounted for the season, including dozens of PS5 games and DLC packs. In comparison, the United States has just 130 games with only a single listing is for the PS5, meaning it likely hasn't been updated since last year. However, if shoppers search for games discounted in the UK in the US shop, they'll find they're identically discounted. PlayStation just hasn't pushed the full Halloween sale live in the US yet.

Of the current games on sale as part of PlayStation's Halloween sale in the US, the lone PS5 game is the Doom Eternal Deluxe Edition. It's currently discounted 67%, down from $89.99 to $29.69. That's not the only PS5 game currently discounted, however. The Diablo Prime Evil Collection, which includes Diablo 2: Resurrected and the Diablo 3: Eternal Collection, is 30% off at $41.99. Resident Evil Village is $33% off, discounted to $40.19. Other PS5 games include Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the Scarlet Nexus Deluxe Edition, the Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition, and more.

PS4 games are much more robustly discounted in PlayStation's Halloween sale. Games including Days Gone, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 2, Hollow Knight, The Evil Within series, and more are discounted 50% off or more.

While having hundreds of games discounted for Halloween, including dozens of PS5 games, is exciting, it's clear Sony is still holding back on having a substantial sale for PS5 titles. A majority of PS5 games on sale are either indie titles, or expensive AAA game bundles rather than simple standard editions. Perhaps Sony will be more open to discounting PS5 games for Black Friday or Christmas, as gamers hope to avoid the $70 price tags for PS5 games.

The PlayStation Halloween sale will run from Wednesday, October 20, through November 3. As previously noted, it looks like the United States sale is only just getting things together. Expect a more formal announcement from PlayStation before too long, along with updated listings under the Halloween sale banner on the PlayStation Store.
