PlayStation Experience 2016 was a major event. Sony announced The Last of Us Part Two and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and also provided fans with lots of exciting updates on games such as Horizon Zero Dawn. It was regarded as a grand spectacle of what the PS4 can offer players.

But will Sony be able to top it this year? The company will certainly hope so, as today it officially announced PlayStation Experience 2017. The main event is set to take place in Anaheim, CA. from December 9-10 and will include hands-on time with the PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR, in addition to panels with developers and rare merchandise and collectibles. Sony also teased a "special event" on December 8 for early bird ticket holders where they can get up close with developers and PlayStation personalities.

Additionally, Sony confirmed that the Capcom Cup 2017 will have a "special tournament stage" for Street Fighter 5 at the event. According to recently leaked Capcom eSports plans, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is set to be a big part of the Capcom Cup 2017 tour, but it's unclear whether that game will feature heavily during the PlayStation Experience 2017 event or even at all.

Sony has already begun to sell early bird tickets for PlayStation Experience 2017, with a limited quantity of discounted tickets currently available here. Only people who purchase the two-day Early Bird pass will be able to attend the special, Dec. 8 event.

Unfortunately Sony didn't detail the exact list of games that will be on show during the event, but fans can make some educated guesses. After showing up to E3 2017 with a fantastic trailer, God of War is likely to make an appearance, especially as the game is out just a few months after PlayStation Experience takes place.

The Last of Us Part Two skipped E3 2017, as Naughty Dog explained that it didn't want the game to steal the limelight from Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. But now that The Lost Legacy is a week away from release, TLOUP2 will be in the clear and Naughty Dog could share much about the game. Death Stranding is still shooting scenes but also seems like a possibility given that it skipped E3 2017 as well.

Otherwise, fans should expect the unexpected. Sony's E3 2017 press conference was criticized for its known quantities as many had hoped for more surprises. Some speculated that the company was holding off on making big announcements until PlayStation Experience. Hopefully Sony will prove that theory correct in December.
