Louis Figueroa, the senior director of global esports and competitive gaming for Sony Interactive Entertainment, posted news about this year's Evolution Champion Series on the PlayStation Blog earlier today. The Evolution Champion Series, also known as Evo, holds fighting game tournaments every year, and 2022 marks its 20th anniversary.

Evo 2022 will take place at Las Vegas, Nevada on August 5-7, with its tournaments being livestreamed on Twitch and YouTube for the first two days of the event. PlayStation will cover Evo 2022 from the PlayStation Tournaments: Evo Lounge, with the hosts being players themselves. The titles that gamers will be able to play and watch matches of are Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, Guilty Gear -Strive-, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Tekken 7, The King of Fighters 15, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, MultiVersus, and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore.

The Evolution Champion Series revealed on its website that there will be eight stages at Evo 2022, along with the games that will be streamed on each one. The main stage will first hold panels, interviews, and exhibitions, followed by matches of each game throughout all three days of the event. Guilty Gear -Strive- matches will take place on the second stage while the third stage will put players of the Granblue Fantasy: Versus and Tekken 7 games against each other.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and MultiVersus matches will be found on the fourth stage while the fifth stage is solely dedicated to Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition. Participants can compete against each other in Melty Blood: Type Lumina and Dragon Ball FighterZ on the sixth stage, along with Skullgirls: 2nd Encore and The King of Fighters 15 on the seventh. The eighth and final stage is dedicated to Vortex Gallery tournaments, which is joining Evo for the event and bringing games like Soulcalibur 6, Super Dragon Ball Z, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and many more.

Outside of watching gamers battle each other in the fighting titles, fans can also look forward to seeing interviews with players, as well as reveals from companies such as Capcom, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Warner Bros. Games, among others. Evo also revealed that there will be an Artist Alley, Vendor Village, Free Play Arcade, and Casual Setups.

As gamers and esports fans prepare for Evo 2022, they can register to participate in the event's tournaments and purchase arena tickets on the Evo website. They can also apply to volunteer, commentate, and vendor.
