Because of the pandemic, delays have seemingly increased in the gaming industry. That’s not to say there weren’t frequent delays before, but it seems more games are being delayed even now as the hardships of the pandemic’s height still challenge developers. If anything, Starfield’s delay shows how any game can, and sometimes should, get this treatment. A delayed game is always better than a bad game at launch, no matter the flak it receives at the moment.

Many have been worried about other games, like God of War: Ragnarok or Hogwarts Legacy, getting delayed, but neither Sony nor Warner Bros. Interactive have said anything about that yet. In fact, the last communication on both games was that God of War: Ragnarok and Hogwarts Legacy would release in 2022. Of course, delays know no “sides” and one PlayStation console exclusive has been delayed.

Tchia is a PlayStation console exclusive previously set to release on PC, PS4, and PS5 sometime in 2022, but developer Awaceb has confirmed it is delayed the game into early 2023. Tchia is an open-world adventure, where players explore a New Caledonia-inspired archipelago, have the ability to take control of animals and objects, and play on a fully functioning Ukulele. Players will step into the shoes of the titular character Tchia as they explore the story and meet diverse characters based on New Caledonian cultures.

Awaceb’s delay takes place for the reason that most games get delayed: polish. It stated that it would be using this extra time to polish the game and focus on every little detail that could help take the game to the next level. Tchia has been a passion project, as Awaceb’s co-founders call New Caledonia their homeland, in the works for three years. It’s not just important for the players, but Awaceb too, that Tchia launches in the best shape possible.

For those looking to scratch that particular indie itch on PlayStation, it’s worth noting there are plenty of indies that have recently released or will release between now and early 2023. Games like Salt and Sacrifice, Stray, Little Devil Inside, Oxenfree 2, and more come to mind.

Gamers often have a mixed reaction to delays, as while they can be disappointing, many often understand that it’s better for the game. Those who have been following Tchia, for example, will see the fruits of Awaceb’s labor when the game launches in early 2023.

Tchia releases in early 2023 for PC, PS4, and PS5.
