The PlayStation Classic is Sony’s entry in the retro mini-console market that was first popularized by Nintendo with the NES Classic. While features such as HDMI support, video output, and available games would seem like the more critical aspects to look out for, it is important to remember that the PlayStation Classic comes with wired controllers.

Of course, it may seem like a minor inconvenience, but it is worth noting that ever since the generation of the PlayStation 3, gaming consoles have switched to using wireless controllers. This means that it’s been about twelve years since gamers used wired controllers and most gaming setups today no longer consider them. So how long are the controller cords of the PlayStation Classic?

According to Sony, the PlayStation Classic’s controller cords will be 1.5 meters in length. To put it in perspective, that’s just slightly longer than the standard iPhone Lighting Cable, so it’s still pretty short for a comfortable living room setup. Sony also revealed that players would be unable to use any other controllers besides those that come in the box. So some may be disappointed to know that there is no way to use any other input devices such as the DualShock 4 with the PlayStation Classic.

Besides the limited functionality, the controllers follow the design of the original PlayStation, which means that it will not include any analog sticks. As a result, some people complained that without the analog sticks, certain games will be difficult if not impossible to navigate, making it a flaw of the PlayStation Classic. While the mini console's limited functionality may be a turn off for some, it faithfully emulates the experience of the original PlayStation, which is the essence of the classic console anyway.

A few weeks ago, Sony finally released the 20 games that will be pre-loaded in the PlayStation Classic. As expected, popular games such as Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken3, and Syphon Filter have all made the cut and will be included in the classic console. While the ideal list of games will be different from person to person, players can check out our wish list of the 15 Games the PlayStation Classic must have.
