There has been a great deal of anticipation for the upcoming PlayStation 5. The console still has plenty of enigmatic features, but based on the elements that have been revealed (such as the DualSense controller), it seems that players should prepare for a console that is an evolution. Despite the excitement surrounding new features, there have been concerns about the console and its games being delivered amidst the current situation. Fortunately for gamers, Sony provided some reassurance in its annual financial statement.

The PlayStation line has been the most successful series of home consoles of all time, and impressive technology alongside groundbreaking exclusive games has been a key part of its success. Yet after the upcoming consoles competitor, Xbox Series X, revealed some concerns with delivering games in a timely manner many wondered about the situation at Sony. Currently, the company appears to have been able to adapt to the global crisis.

The statement by Sony claims that despite employees working from home as well as restrictions on travel will not impact the release date for the PlayStation 5, which is scheduled for the holiday 2020. With that said, the company did claim to be facing challenges with "part of the testing progress and the qualification of production lines" although these issues are being managed.

Interestingly, the statement also noted, "At this point in time major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony's own first-party studios or its partner's studios." This will be a relief to players who had been concerned about game development after a number of games that were scheduled for this year had date changes.

It should be noted that the statement highlights no "major problems," so smaller issues may be ongoing, and games may slip or face delays. On the whole, this is a positive message from Sony and it seems that the company is managing to work around a situation that has severely impacted many other industries and markets. With that said, the gaming industry has seen delays and troubles elsewhere because of the current situation.

The team at Sony have seemed to work around huge obstacles to ensure the delivery of the PlayStation 5. With news that the consoles competition may face issues delivering games, the console may be at a significant advantage at launch. If this is the case, the next generation may yet again be dominated by PlayStation.

PlayStation 5 is set to release sometime in Winter 2020.
