PlayStation 5 is set to release in 2020 and fans can't wait to get their hands on the new hardware and their eyes on the next-generation games set to release on it. Sony boasts a strong set of developers and franchises that are likely years into development on PS5 titles and the rumors are beginning to swirl.
Between follow-ups to PlayStation 4 hits, to brand new entries in industry-leading third-party franchises, the future of the PlayStation platform looks great. Let's look at 10 games rumored to be coming to the PlayStation 5.
10 New Naughty Dog Title
With The Last Of Us Part II now set to release later into the first half of 2020, fans are wondering what's next for the studio. Nathan Drake's story in the Uncharted series seems to be over, so fans are unclear whether the franchise will continue with its mainline hiatus and/or a new spinoff title would be revealed. There have also been rumblings that Naughty Dog is working on a brand new IP that's unrelated to the worlds of Uncharted or The Last Of Us. At this point, the studio has more than earned that creative freedom.
9 NCAA Football
The recent announcement that the NCAA would be moving in a direction where they would begin to pay their athletes was met with resounding happiness from gamers across the country. This announcement meant that there is now a chance for Electronic Art's beloved college football video game franchise to return after disappearing from shelves when player likenesses and student-athlete revenue became a huge topic of discussion. Either way, a new entry in the NCAA Football franchise is years away at the earliest.
8 Demon Souls Remake
Bluepoint Games are considered one of, if not the, best developers in the industry when it comes to remastering beloved classics. They've done an amazing job bringing older games to a modern audience and have delivered with both Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted remastered collections as well as the remake of Shadow of the Colossus. They're currently working on a self-proclaimed "big game" remaster that is confirmed to at least be coming to PlayStation 5, and the rumors are that it's a remake of FromSoftware's Demon Souls.
7 GTA VI
Now that Red Dead Redemption 2 is out it's very likely that the majority of Rockstar Games have turned their attention towards the next Grand Theft Auto game. Rumors have been swirling that the 6th mainline entry in the series will be returning to their fictional version of Miami, Vice City. Whether that's true or not, it's safe to say that the game is currently being worked on as we speak. With the success of GTA Online, don't be surprised if that makes its way over into next-gen as it seemingly prints money for Rockstar.
6 Horizon Zero Dawn 2
Though it was easy to assume that this title has already been in development considering the first entry released in early 2017, it's nice to hear confirmation of that being the case.
Accomplished voice and live-action actor Janina Gavankar accidentally let it slip the game was in the works when she teased fans will lose their mind when they see what's next. Her words didn't reveal anything unexpected, but it did unveil a mystery that the industry will try to keep under lock and key given the struggle that game development can create.
5 Dragon Age 4
Dragon Age 4 falls into the category of games we know are in development, but aren't clear on what platforms they'll be releasing on. It can be assumed that since the next-generation of consoles are releasing in 2020 and Electronic Arts has stated the game is still years away which means it won't be releasing until at least 6 months after the new hardware has hit shelves. Whether that means it's cross-generational is unclear, but it's best to assume it will release on next-gen consoles at the very least.
4 Spider-Man 2
Marvel's Spider-Man took the world by storm as the first premiere title released under Bill Rosemann and Marvel Games' new gaming initiative. It showed how successful it can be to pair a brand like Spider-Man with a perfect game studio match in Insomniac Games. Sony recently purchased the studio in hopes of strengthening its stable of developers which means that they've likely already received the green light to begin working on the follow-up title they teased at the end of Peter Parker's first adventure in 2018.
3 Assassin's Creed: Vikings
The worst kept secret in gaming almost every year is the setting and partial details surrounding the next entry in the Assassin's Creed series. Like clockwork, it seems that one of Ubisoft's flagship franchises has a leak in the ship and it never seems to get fixed or filled in.
The leaks have mentioned that the next entry will feature Norse mythology and have heavy Viking and Norwegian influences. It also comes with a rumored titled for the new entry, Assassin's Creed: Kingdoms.
2 Batman Arkham: Court Of Owls
Warner Bros. Montreal is a studio that is either oblivious or the biggest troll in the industry. They decided to tweet for the first time in years right before the PlayStation State of Play with images teasing a Court of Owls inspired Batman game that had been rumored for months and years. It turns out that the timing of the tweets was purely coincidence and they were a no-show during Sony's promotional video. Fans are holding out hope that the expected cross-gen Batman titled is revealed at The Game Awards 2019.
1 God Of War: Ragnarok
In 2018, the God Of War franchise went from being a dated but beloved PlayStation franchise, to arguably taking the place as the best console exclusive Sony's ever published. The game released to stellar critical praise by both reviewers and consumers alike. The game itself teased the oncoming Ragnarok event and fans know that the follow-up is likely already in development. It will still be several years before it's revealed to fans, but expect Sony Santa Monica to hit that same level of quality.
