Well before Sony revealed its upcoming next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, it teased the PS5's DualSense controller early to avoid possible leaks in lieu of having public press conferences due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While there is still plenty the public does not know about Sony's console, some have figured out that the DualSense controller comes with specific detail that should please long-time fans.

The DualSense's body is textured to serve as a grip so players will not accidentally let the controller slip out of his or her hands during a heated play session, or when it surprises someone by utilizing haptic feedback to simulate sensations like rain. On June 13, a fan who goes by brokenswiftie on the forum site ResetEra pointed out that this texturing is not something as simple as dots or ridges. Rather, it is actually repeating patterns of the four PlayStation symbols: A circle, a square, a triangle, and an X.

Those symbols have long been associated with the PlayStation given they mark the four buttons of every controller, as opposed to Nintendo and Microsoft sticking with more traditional A, B, X, and Y buttons. In fact, they also comprise much of the marketing that surrounds Sony's console brand as a whole, and showed heavily in the PS5 reveal event stream earlier this month.

While most of the commenters on brokenswiftie's ResetEra post are excited by the level of detail present in Sony's "premium" design, others are concerned that what is ostensibly an extraneous addition will cause the controller's price to increase. Sony has not revealed the PS5 price yet and some believe this may be a sign it will be on the expensive side, though with the reveal there will be two versions of the console there's a chance the price may vary reasonably.

Even without this detail, prospective players know a lot about the current line-up of launch games for the PS5. Between this and technical specs that have been revealed prior to the console's design, there is enough out there to at least start considering whether Sony's next-generation console will be worth buying.

Seeing details like the DualSense controller's special texturing is also a good way for gamers to know how much care went into the design of the PS5. Whether or not this will push interested fans over the line to buy a PlayStation 5 will have to be seen whenever it officially releases.
