The 1.0 update of The Planet Crafter added multiplayer to the game. There was just one problem: every character looked the same. That's why a highlight of the Explosive Update has been to add new spacesuits (or skins) to The Planet Crafter.
You might still start the game in a spacesuit identical to other players, but you can now discover 15 different suit skins that help you differentiate each multiplayer character. And, thanks to character gestures and visible arms, even solo gamers will be able to add a little fashion to their playthroughs.
The Planet Crafter: Warden Key Locations
The Warden's Keys unlock a deep well of lore in The Planet Crafter, but they can be tricky to locate.
Where to Find Suit Skins
Unlike with plants and animals, The Planet Crafter doesn't expect you to craft a variety of spacesuit skins using DNA Manipulators or Incubators. Instead, the best place to find new skins is where you find other evidence of civilization: shipwrecks.
Specifically, the update has added a new container to the game called a spacesuits locker. These lockers exclusively hold suit skins, and the developer has added them to many of the wrecks that dot the landscape. The fact that it's a new container also means that returning players should be able to find plenty of spacesuits even if they've already explored all the wrecks in the main region. Just about every wreck and hidden base has at least one suit locker, and each locker contains one to four spacesuits.
Other places you can find suits include:
- In random crates
- In remote wrecks, both in crates and lockers
- On the Space Trading menu: the Spacesuit Vateo costs 6,500 Terra Tokens, and the Spacesuit Widio costs 8,000 Terra Tokens.
How to Use Skins
Equipping one of these new skins is easy enough. Simply select the spacesuit you want to put on, and then use it. This will put the suit in one of your equipment slots, just like a jetpack or oxygen tank. Your character will then perform a gesture, letting you see how the suit looks in action. You can rotate your view of your character with the strafe left and strafe right buttons (A and D on keyboard).
If you already have a suit skin equipped, you can't equip a new one. Instead, you must first unequip your current skin and then equip the replacement.
You can also equip skins on a suit stand, which is a new decorative item added with the Explosive Update. These work just like displays for other The Planet Crafter collectibles like frogs and fish, but an empty suit stand will display the default spacesuit instead of standing empty. If you want to build an area with one suit of every model, make sure you leave one empty to get the full set.
One nice feature of the spacesuit skins is that you can tell you're wearing them even in the first-person view. You won't see the whole suit by looking down, but the colors and patterns of your hands and arms will change depending on which skin you have equipped.
