There are nine different types of Pikmin in Pikmin 4, each one with its own strengths and weaknesses. When players first begin their adventure, they'll only have access to Red Pikmin but will soon begin to unlock more types as they start to explore the strange and at times dangerous planet on which Olimar and the Rescue Corps currently find themselves stranded.

Though every type of Pikmin has its uses, Yellow Pikmin are among the most important, as they'll be needed to access certain parts of the map or to get to some of the more hard-to-reach Treasures. Thankfully, those hoping to unlock Yellow Pikmin in Pikmin 4 won't have to wait too long, as it's possible to do so on just the second day if players know where to look for them.

The first chance that players will get to unlock Yellow Pikmin is in the Sun-Speckled Terrace area, which is the first place that players will be able to explore after completing the game's prologue. They can be found down in the Crackling Cauldron Sublevel, the entrance to which is near the Rugged Scaffold base. Before they can drop down there, though, players will first need to have some of their Pikmin dig up the entrance. Of course, Oatchi can also be asked to dig if players want to speed things up a little.

Once they've entered the Crackling Cauldron, players should follow the path ahead of them until they come to a pipe sticking out of the wall to their left. Here, on the ground inside the pipe, they'll find five Yellow Pikmin just waiting to be plucked, with several more Yellow Pikmin scattered around throughout the rest of the area. Once they return to the surface, players will be able to use these Yellow Pikmin to destroy the electric fence near the entrance to the Creaking Cauldron, which will allow them to reach the area's third base.

From here, players should look for a nearby bag, which can be crushed using ten or more Pikmin. Behind this bag is the first of two Yellow Onions (the other of which is in the Blossoming Arcadia area), and taking this back to base will lead to it merging with the player's existing onion, allowing players to grow their own Yellow Pikmin. As well as being immune to electricity and thus able to destroy electric gates, these Yellow Pikmin are excellent diggers and are lighter than other types of Pikmin too. Players can take advantage of this to throw them higher than they could a Red or Blue Pikmin, allowing them to reach Treasure and areas that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Pikmin 4 is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
