At its core, Pikmin 4 is a game about solving problems, with players needing to figure out which of the tools at their disposal is best suited to a given task. Much like in previous Pikmin games, many of the puzzles in Pikmin 4 have multiple solutions, with some being far more efficient than others. When it comes to getting past the game's yellow electric gates, though, there's only really one right answer.

These electric fences can paralyze or even kill all those who touch them with the exception of one very specific type of Pikmin. As such, Pikmin 4 players hoping to get past these yellow electric fences will need to make sure that they have the right lineup of Pikmin at their disposal or risk having to return to base in order to reconfigure their traveling party.

In order to pass through an electric gate, players will first have to break it. To do this, players will need to have a few Yellow Pikmin in their lineup, as their immunity to electricity allows them to come into contact with the gate without getting zapped. Assuming they've already unlocked Yellow Pikmin, players will simply need to throw a few Yellow Pikmin at the gate and wait for them to destroy it. As with other tasks in Pikmin 4, players can speed up this process by throwing additional Pikmin at the gate, though these will also need to be yellow ones.

How to Select Yellow Pikmin in Pikmin 4

Pikmin 4 makes it easy for players to select a single type of Pikmin, with the L and R buttons used to cycle between all of the different Pikmin types that players have with them, as well as Oatchi, the rescue pup. The currently selected Pikmin type will be shown in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen in a blue circle, with the number at the bottom of the circle indicating how many of this Pikmin type players can command at any given moment. To break an electric fence, Pikmin 4 players will simply need to cycle to the Yellow Pikmin, aim their cursor at the gate, and then press the A button to start throwing Pikmin.

Players should be careful not to press the A button too many times, as once they run out of one particular type of Pikmin , the game will automatically cycle to the next one.

Pikmin 4 is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
