Just like in previous Pikmin games, Onions are incredibly important in Pikmin 4. By finding colored Onions, players will unlock the ability to harvest new types of Pikmin, while each Flarlic that they find will increase the total number of Pikmin that they can use at any given time by ten. There are twelve Flarlics scattered throughout the game's six main stages and seven colored Onions, with three more hidden away in the game's main hub area.

Finding every Onion in Pikmin 4 will be vital to those hoping to fully complete the game, as although players will be able to find wild Pikmin hidden away in caves and Sublevels, finding a colored Onion is the only way to reliably cultivate certain types of Pikmin. Finding Flarlic is equally important, as there are certain tasks that need a lot of Pikmin to carry out; far more than the default number of Pikmin that players have at their disposal.

For whatever reason, there are two yellow onions in Pikmin 4 as well as two blue ones. Collecting the first of each will unlock Yellow and Blue Pikmin respectively, while finding the second will add twenty of that Pikmin's type to the player's total supply of stored Pikmin.

Red Onion (Red Pikmin)	Players can find the Red Onion at the Rescue Command Post during the opening stages of the game.
Yellow Onion (Yellow Pikmin)	Players can find a Yellow Onion behind a crushable paper bag in the southwest corner of the Sun-Speckled Terrace area. They can find another one in the southern part of Blossoming Arcadia.
Blue Onion (Blue Pikmin)	Players can find a Blue Onion near the pond in the southern part of the Sun-Speckled Terrace area. They can find another one in a circular pool in the southeast corner of Serene Shores.
Light Blue Onion (Ice Pikmin)	Players can find the Light Blue Onion in a freezer drawer in the northern part of the Hero's Hideaway area.
Black Onion (Rock Pimin)	Players can find the Black Onion in the northern part of the Giant's Heart area.
Pink Onion (Winged Pikmin)	Players can find the Pink Onion in the southeast corner of the Primordial Thicket area.
White Onion (White Pikmin)	Players will get the White Onion for completing the "5th Story: The White Key" section of the Trial of the Sage Leaf questline, which can be accessed via the Rescue Command Post.
