Phasmophobia has had its console release delayed once more, with no confirmed date this time. The Phasmophobia console ports were initially delayed to October 2023 following a fire in Kinetic Games' UK-based workplace.

Initially dropping in September 2020 as a PC exclusive via early access, Phasmophobia is known for its highly versatile and customizable experience. It boasts a variety of modes, including multiplayer, and is even compatible with VR. Following its release, the game underwent a spike in popularity even among horror games, garnering praise among critics and Twitch streamers, becoming the bestselling Steam game for three weeks straight, and even winning Best Debut Game at The Game Awards 2020. Such popularity was all the British indie developer needed to start work on porting Phasmophobia to Sony and Microsoft's consoles.

Phasmophobia Update Gives Crucifix Game-Changing Upgrade

The recently released Phasmophobia Tempest update includes a big update to the crucifix item that makes it much easier to use.

On the game's official Steam page, Kinetic Games detailed the latest delay for Phasmophobia's console release. It explained that its staff was having trouble adjusting to the new remote working environment following the studio fire. In addition, the development team intends to optimize the PS5 port for the recently released PS VR2 peripheral, and as part of that process, Phasmophobia's Maple Lodge Campsite needed to be heavily altered, complete with a new layout and better performance. Both of these are the main reasons why the console versions had to be delayed yet again. No release date was provided, but Kinetic Games promised to keep fans updated on its progress and provide a date sometime later.

While the plan was initially was to have Phasmophobia's console ports coincide with an in-game Halloween event, scheduled for October 26, Kinetic confirmed that the event will still happen for those who own the game on PC. A cauldron has been added to the revised Maple Lodge Campsite, and players are encouraged to brew a potion in it by hunting down recipe cards in various other in-game locations. In addition, throughout the event's duration, the campsite and lobby will be decorated Halloween-style. Players who finish the event will be rewarded with a new trophy and ID badge.

A game getting delayed is never a pleasant thing to hear, especially if it's highly anticipated, and there are many instances of delays ruining a game's hype and pre-release reception. Still, Phasmophobia's fans were very understanding after the previous delay, given how well the developers have treated them in the past, so perhaps they'll willingly show some more patience here.

Phasmophobia is available on PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S ports coming at an unspecified date.
