Just days after the Japanese release of Phantasy Star Online 2 in July 2012, Sega announced that it would be bringing the MMORPG to the west in the immediate future. Seven years later, many fans are likely to have given up on the idea of a Phantasy Star Online 2 western release, but all of these players' hopes have just been restored thanks to a new Phantasy Star Online 2 trailer that was shared during the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference.

In this Phantasy Star Online 2 E3 2019 trailer, it is confirmed that Phantasy Star Online 2 will launch in the US in spring 2020. While no exact Phantasy Star Online 2 US release date was provided, a launch window is certain to be much more than many PSO2 fans were expecting to get during today's Microsoft conference. To note, it is said that this PSO2 western release is set for Xbox One and PC, and there is no mention of any other platforms at this time.

That said, it is indicated that the PSO2 US release will support cross-play, which will seemingly allow Xbox One and PC owners to play together. Additionally, it is stated that the western release of Phantasy Star Online 2 will be free-to-play, which may be suitable compensation to those that have been waiting seven years for the title to make it to the United States.

So too, today's PSO2 E3 2019 trailer highlights the aesthetic and world of Phantasy Star. While many that are interested in the title's arrival in the west are likely to already be familiar with these types of visuals, the trailer may succeed in capturing the interest of new players in preface of the release of Phantasy Star Online 2 in the west.

When the English language website for Phantasy Star Online 2 went down in November 2017, it seemed that it was the end of the road for a Phantasy Star Online 2 western release. However, the announcement made at the Microsoft press conference today has flipped this idea on its head, and it proves that E3 can still be a site for exciting and unexpected game reveals.
