A credible Atlus insider recently revealed the codename for the long-awaited Persona 6 and has shared additional information about the development cycle of the as-of-yet unannounced title. The next mainline installment in Atlus' flagship JRPG franchise has been hit with leak after leak in recent weeks, but fans are still being left in the dark on what exactly the game will look like. Although the details provided in this most recent report aren't much to go off of by themselves, they might give fans a clearer picture regarding the scale of Persona 6 and its potential release window.

Though Atlus' 2024 lineup is fairly stacked, the sixth mainline entry in the Persona series is still nowhere to be found within the company's upcoming roadmap. The Persona franchise as a whole has been more active than ever before, yet the lack of an official acknowledgment from the developers regarding Persona 6 has left some fans impatient after several years of silence. Atlus' hesitation to share information on the unannounced game hasn't stopped insiders from revealing details about it, however. Just recently, for instance, the placeholder logo for Persona 6 leaked, further corroborating rumors that the title will feature a green color scheme. And now, the insider that leaked this particular logo has provided even more information about the upcoming JRPG.

Atlus Insider Weighs In On When Persona 6 Could Be Announced

A credible Atlus insider weighs in on the possibility of Persona 6 being announced at one of 2024's several upcoming showcases.

In a recent post on Twitter, the reputable leaker Midori revealed that the codename Atlus is reportedly using for Persona 6 is XRD768. To provide some additional context, the insider also revealed that the game "entered full production before the Persona titles that were currently released," A.K.A. 2024's Persona 3 Reload and 2023's Persona 5 Tactica. As such, it seems like Persona 6 has been in development for a significantly longer period of time than any of these new Persona titles, and the codename Midori provided corroborates her report.

At first glance, Persona 6's codename looks like nothing more than a randomly-assorted jumble of numbers and letters, but it does actually provide some valuable information. The codenames for unannounced Atlus games typically use the "XRDxxx" format, with the three numbers at the end of each label indicating when the projects started production, in chronological order. The internally-used designation for Persona 3 Reload, for instance, was XRD777, while the one used for Catherine: Full Body was XRD774. Persona 6 brandishing a codename ending in 768 indicates that the game entered development long before either of these two titles, which supports the claims Midori made.

Persona 6's Reportedly Long Development Time Will Likely Set Expectations Even Higher For Fans

Persona 6 seemingly being in development for such a long period of time will likely set expectations even higher for many fans. Instead of providing more of the same, Atlus may be striving to take the series to the next level yet again, like it did with the franchise's fifth mainline installment in 2016. With how beloved previous games in the series are, it's safe to say that Persona 6 will have a high bar to clear when it inevitably releases within the next few years.
