The playable characters of Persona 5 Tactica are not made equal. Here are the best, ranked.

With so many combinations of the Phantom Thieves to choose from, which ones stand out more than the rest? Here are some of the best party compositions of the Phantom Thieves to make the most out of their respective Personas when dealing with nefarious Shadow Leaders and their underlings who are lording over dreamscapes.

The party compositions listed do not take into consideration the Sub-Personas that can be equipped to each of the Phantom Thieves.

Since there are tons of Personas in the game, the permutations can be endless, and it is up to the players’ preference on what Sub-Persona they want to run with their characters. The lineups here rely on the characters’ main Personas and how well they synergize with other members.

4 Joker, Yusuke, Morgana

Run-and-Gun Tactics

Joker, Morgana, and Yusuke about to engage some enemies
  • Ranged-Focus team
  • Maximizes mobility and proper positioning

For those who are still getting into the mechanics of Persona 5 Tactica, one of the early team compositions they can run is with Joker, Yusuke, and Morgana. This team is focused on hitting enemies from a safe distance while keeping them from getting too close and having plenty of mobility around the map.

Yusuke is adept at long-range combat, with his Gun attacks having the longest range among the Phantom Thieves. His Persona, Goemon, has a knack of Freezing enemies in their place, thanks to his ice-based attacks.

Morgana is used in this composition as the enemies’ location manipulator. His Persona, Zorro, has extremely powerful wind-based attacks that Sweep enemies away from Cover. This is essential since, apart from keeping enemies away, hitting them when they are not under Cover allows for more movement around the battlefield.

Persona 5 Tactica: Best Persona For The Early Game

In Persona 5 Tactica, these Persona stand as the best for players to use early on in the game.

Capping the team is Joker and Arsene, his Persona. The leader of the Phantom Thieves can run circles around enemies by using Arsene’s Despair attacks, while also Gunning down enemies out of Cover. Doing so allows Joker to triangulate with Yusuke and Morgana to maximize All-Out Attacks on groups of enemies. Joker and Yusuke also synergize well with one another, and they significantly improve a team’s Gun damage.

3 Yusuke, Ryuji, Ann

Elemental Assault

Ann, Ryuji, and Yusuke about to attack an enemy
  • Utilization of Burn, Shock, and Freeze mechanics
  • Burst damage and enemy movement/action manipulation

One of the fun combat mechanics to figure out in Persona 5 Tactica is how each of the Phantom Thieves’ main Personas attacks impact the battlefield. This composition of Ann, Yusuke, and Ryuji, lets players test how the previous games’ starting elemental damage-using Personas fare in a tactical scenario.

Ryuji and his Persona, Captain Kidd, harness electric attacks to Shock enemies. Targets that have the Shock status cannot move, making them susceptible to getting Downed by subsequent attacks from Ryuji’s teammates. This is especially effective against enemies who are taking Cover.

To deal with more hard-hitting enemies, like Ramparts, Yusuke and Goemon’s ice attacks can stop them from attacking, thanks to the Freeze status. However, players need to remember to not attack Frozen enemies if it’s not going to eliminate them since they will lose the status effect and can move and attack again.

The Persona 5 Games' Early Antagonists Share an Interesting Common Theme

While the Persona 5 games share some common elements, one theme ties together each game's early villains and sets up the Phantom Thieves' motivations.

Ann and her Persona, Carmen, specialize in dealing massive fire damage that can induce Burn on enemies, dealing persistent damage over time after the initial cast. Most of Carmen’s fire abilities cover a wide area which synergizes well with enemies that have either Shock or Freeze status.

2 Haru, Ryuji, Makoto

Shock and Awe

Makoto, Ryuji, and Haru scoping out enemy formations
  • Use of Psi, Vortex, and Shock mechanics
  • Strong Melee damage

Players who want to get up close and personal with enemies can use this heavy-hitting composition. Both Makoto and Haru improve their team’s Melee damage when they are part of the group, while Ryuji bolsters the team’s HP whenever he is included in the lineup.

This team composition is also effective in drawing out enemies in the open: Haru’s Persona, Milady, can hypnotize enemies and lure them to get as close to her location as possible. This can be used to follow up with her teammates’ melee or Gun attacks, as well as Persona abilities to get them in the Down state, which is essential for devastating All-Out Attacks.

Makoto’s Persona, Johanna, is also extremely potent in manipulating the enemies’ position since her Vortex attacks suck in opponents in the middle of her spells. Using this on enemy Ramparts is beneficial since they often retaliate by jumping as close to the person that damaged them.

Persona 5 Tactica: Trophy Roadmap

Getting the Platinum Trophy in Persona 5 Tactica requires players to unleash a highly damaging attack and amass a great deal of money, so here's how.

Meanwhile, Ryuji can lock enemies in place for a turn by hitting them with Captain Kidd’s Shock attacks. In ideal cases, this allows Haru or Makoto to knock them around with melee attacks, Downing them in the process and opening them up for an All-Out Attack finish. That said, this composition needs advanced knowledge of ability range and enemy placements to pull off the combos.

1 Ann, Morgana, Joker

Persona-Using Powerhouse

Morgana, Joker, and Ann about to execute a plan
  • High SP for casting Persona skills multiple times
  • Excellent damage output
  • Great Enemy displacement and team mobility

Personas often have map-altering effects, such as displacing enemies, strong damage that covers wide areas, and movement tweaks for both the Phantom Thieves and their opponents. This lineup consisting of Ann, Morgana, and Joker provides an excellent combination of damage, mobility, and survivability. Both Ann and Morgana’s SP buff on the team allows for more chances to cast Persona abilities onto enemies and teammates, keeping the advantage on the Phantom Thieves during almost every turn.

Morgana is an essential member of this composition, as he can provide both offense and defense, depending on how the mission progresses. His Garu abilities with Zorro displace enemies who are either hiding in Cover, or are getting too close to the team. He can also provide support by using Dia or more powerful versions of this to heal his teammates.

Persona 5 Tactica's Erina and Toshiro Explained

Erina and Toshiro serve as two new characters joining the Phantom Thieves in Persona 5 Tactica, helping to propel its narrative forward.

Ann’s damage output is arguably the highest in the game, especially once players have access to the stronger versions of Carmen’s Burn abilities. She can take care of weaker enemies with one hit more times than not: for those who manage to survive the initial onslaught, they will incur Burn damage that lingers for a turn. This softens them up for either Joker or Morgana to finish them off.

Speaking of Joker, using Arsene’s Despair attacks on enemies gives him mobility during the next turn. The more enemies hit by Despair attacks, the more movement Joker gains, so it is best for players to target as many enemies as possible, especially if enemies were hit by Ann or Morgana’s attacks prior. Following up on Ann and Morgana’s attacks grants Joker an extra turn to move: this can be used to position himself for an All-Out Attack to finish off enemies.
