The combat of Persona 5 Royal is pretty approachable, but things can get tricky if players aren't approaching certain fights tactically or have their fair share of powerful abilities to help them out in any situation. Here are some of the best skills that Joker should have access to at all times to deal with most battles efficiently.

10 Elemental Skills That Cover All Bases

Apsaras

Exploiting weaknesses is the bread-and-butter of Persona 5's combat system. It's downright necessary to down all enemies by targeting their weak points to initiate All-Out Attacks or commence negotiations to expand Joker's list of Personas.

This makes it important to cover all bases and equip Personas on Joker that have attacks corresponding to each element. This is especially important early on when there aren't enough party members to exploit weaknesses with their elemental affiliations.

9 Healing Skills, Preferably The Ones That Affect All Party Members

Hariti

It's obviously going to be quite frustrating if Joker ends up dying at the hands of an errant attack and the player experiences a game over. Any other party member getting knocked out is also quite irritating, since reviving allies takes way more SP and money than just healing them.

So, Joker should ideally have powerful regenerative abilities to heal party members if they're stuck in a tough spot. The best kind of healing skills are the ones that target everyone since this prevents unnecessary wastage of turns to heal allies one at a time.

8 Passive Regenerative Skills

Persona 5

SP is one of the most important things to manage in Persona 5 Royal, especially if players want to get through an entire Palace in one day. It becomes really important to manage this stat, especially for Joker since he's going to be the focus of the party's attack and defense.

This is where regenerative skills prove to be a huge help, allowing for both Joker's HP and SP to come back during turns in battle. Players who decide to focus on physical skills while their SP is being regenerated can easily power through a Palace in virtually no time at all.

7 Stat-Boosting Skills That Target All Allies

Lakshmi

Stat boosts are critical in the mainline Shin Megami Tensei series and downright mandatory to deal with most of the encounters in these games. Thankfully, this difficulty was toned down in the Persona series to make for a more accessible and enjoyable experience.

However, buffs are still pretty important if players want a smoother time with the game and its grueling boss fights. Preferably, skills that buff all allies should be prioritized over individual buffs, which can be pretty painstaking to apply.

6 Hassou Tobi, Riot Gun, Or Any Other Powerful Physical/Gun Skill

Yoshitsune

Physical and Gun skills are quite useful in Persona 5 Royal, mainly because they use HP instead of SP to deal damage. Since it's easier for players to heal up their characters instead of restoring their SP, having these skills is quite important.

After all, targeting enemy weaknesses all the time isn't a sustainable strategy, especially early on in the game. This makes it important to resort to brute force if a party's SP pool is dangerously low.

5 One-Shot Kill

One-shot Kill in Persona 5

Downing enemies is quite important to ensure that party members go through most encounters unscathed. Not only does this make enemies more vulnerable, but it gives the attacker a free turn too!

Aside from targeting weaknesses, another way to down enemies and get a free turn is by scoring a critical hit. One-shot Kill is a pretty useful skill in this regard, boasting a high critical rate that all but guarantees a powerful hit that downs foes.

4 Concentrate & Charge

Baal

Maximizing damage for both physical and magical attacks is important to end encounters quickly, especially against tough bosses with massive HP pools. The lengthier these battles are, the higher the odds are of a player running out of SP before the boss is downed.

So, it's important to use both Concentrate and Charge to increase the effectiveness of both magical and physical attacks, respectively. It might take a turn to charge up, but the sheer damage numbers that are achieved as a result are truly incredible.

3 Debilitate

Cybele

Buffs are great for allies, but an enemy should also be weakened to make them more vulnerable to attacks. Individually applying each debuff to target their attack, defense, and agility can take a lot of time and might not be worth the investment.

Thankfully, skills like Debilitate make it easier to turn the most powerful bosses into glorified punching bags. This skill inflicts all three debuffs at once and makes it easier to rain down a ton of punishment on powerful enemies while not suffering as much from their attacks either.

2 Thermopylae With The Vitality Of The Tree Persona Trait

Dionysus

Thermopylae is a pretty great move, letting players buff their party members up when they're ambushed. However, the situational nature of this move means that a lot of players might write it off as a pretty useless move in the vast majority of battles.

Thermoplyae becomes pretty useful once players get this ability on a Persona with the Vitality of the Tree trait. This Persona trait allows for moves that are usually locked to ambush situations to be usable in any battle without any consequences. Suffice it to say, players will be spamming Thermopylae in any tough fight after netting this valuable combination.

1 Neo Cadenza

Neo Cadenza in Persona 5

Neo Cadenza is an ability that isn't available by regular means in the game. It's a part of a DLC for Persona 5 Royal, which isn't accessible to everyone.

However, players who decide to buy the DLC to get Orpheus from Persona 3 as a recruitable Persona will be well-serviced with one of the most powerful abilities in the entire game. Not only does Neo Cadenza only buff all party members across the board, but it also heals them for 50% of their HP. The fact that this ability somehow costs less SP than Thermopylae is genuinely mind-boggling and will turn most boss fights into an absolute breeze as long as players maintain Joker's SP pool.

Persona 5 Royal is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
