Following the conclusion of the closed beta for Persona 5: The Phantom X in late March, players have been able to scour plentiful information, both from participating in the closed beta and also via data mining of the game files. The fighting style of the new cast and their respective Persona are some of the information gained from the closed beta.

Players themselves have already expected some of the features that they have encountered in the closed beta. Ever since Persona 5: The Phantom X is revealed to be a free-to-play mobile game by Chinese developer Black Wings and publisher Perfect World Games with supervision by Atlus, it is expected that some sort of monetization system will also exist in the game.

10 A New Protagonist

Although Joker became a fan-favorite after his initial appearance as the protagonist of the base game, Persona 5: The Phantom X will feature another protagonist. The protagonist's code name will be Wonder. He is a second-year student at Kokatsu Academy.

Wonder himself is currently still shrouded in mystery due to the beta state of the game. Not much has been revealed other than his not having any canonical names yet and the unexpected ability to be one of the Wild Card's holders, making himself able to wield multiple Persona at the same time, akin to his predecessors.

9 Fresh Faces For The Party

Just like the protagonist, Persona 5: The Phantom X will also feature a whole new cast of characters to make things fresh for both veterans and newcomers to the series alike. One of the newest characters to be introduced in the story is Motoha Arai, with the codename Closer. She wields a meteor hammer as a weapon, new to the series.

Aside from Motoha Arai, there are also Seiji Shiratori (Seiji), Kotone Montagne (Mont), and Yukimi Fujikawa (Yuki) as some of the fresh faces for the party, albeit not directly confirmed yet by the game's story.

8 Familiar Locations

Since the game is set in the same city as Persona 5, many of the base game's locations make a reappearance in the closed beta phase of Persona 5: The Phantom X. Closed beta players are able to visit familiar places such as Yongen-Jaya and Shibuya.

However, most of the familiar locations also have differences in each of them, with the most notable one being Café LeBlanc in the game. There is no set name yet for the place, and a fan-favorite is notably missing inside the place.

7 New Velvet Room Attendant

As per tradition, a new game in the Persona series would feature a new Velvet Room attendant that is normally a reflection of the protagonist's consciousness. Although it is set in Persona 5's universe, Persona 5: The Phantom X features a new attendant rather than the twin wardens.

Instead, Wonder will consult Igor in the Velvet Room while being assisted by Merope. The new Velvet Room attendant is named after the Greek Goddess Merope, similar to the theme of the other cast member's Persona names which are derived from Greek mythology.

6 Gacha Mechanic

Similar to other games on the mobile platform, Persona 5: The Phantom X will feature a Gacha mechanic for its various gameplay feature. From getting a playable party member to getting a new Persona, players would have to gain a certain amount of in-game currency to strengthen their party to face strong Shadows in the game.

Currently, both the beta gameplay and data mining show that the Gacha mechanic will provide the means to acquire new party members, powerful Persona for Wonder, and also weapons for the appropriate party members.

5 Returning Characters

With the game being set in the same universe as Persona 5, it is expected that some of the characters from the base game will make a return to Persona 5: The Phantom X. Although the list is still growing due to the game being in active development, few familiar faces already made their return to the game.

One of the examples is Iwai Munehisa, who functions as the shopkeeper of Untouchable Airsoft and also the Hanged Man Arcana. Igor also returned as the ever-present owner of the Velvet Room, providing Joker the service of having multiple Persona at his disposal.

4 A New Mascot

Morgana will have to share his spotlight with another Mascot as Ruferu (aka Cattle) make his appearance as the dedicated mascot for Persona 5: The Phantom X. Cattle's design is also unique, having a form of an owl that can shape-shift from an anthropomorphized figure to a real, flying owl.

Cattle also share the same similarity with Morgana in being able to transform into a car as well, making life easier for Wonder and his party to navigate the tricky world of Memento deep inside the people's consciousness.

3 Memento's Return

The fascinating, endless Depths of Memento also make a return in Persona 5: The Phantom X. Players can explore the Memento to defeat Shadows and gain various items to strengthen their party while also completing quests from the real world.

There is not much yet known about why Memento returns in Persona 5: The Phantom X, although there are speculations that the game itself takes place in an alternate universe where the Phantom Thieves have not made their moves yet. The area also makes its appearance quite early in the story as Wonder accidentally turns on the Metaverse Navigation application on his phone.

2 Censored Shadows

Due to the regulations in China, which is expected to be where Persona 5: The Phantom X will be first released, many of the Shadows' designs get censored to fit the government's laws involving nudity and certain imagery. In particular, nudity and skeletons imageries are taken out from Shadows and Persona designs.

However, some of the redesigns also give the Persona a fresh look. For example, the Succubus is wearing a latex suit, while the bloody Bugs has its stomach shut while removing the violent imagery from the adorable doll.

1 A New Antagonist

With the limited amount of story the players are getting from the closed beta test, it's hard to speculate whether the antagonists that Wonder and his party will face are going to be unique to the base game or not. Within the limited beta test, players will face a new antagonist named Yuuji Kiuchi, a former baseball player.

Although there is no guarantee yet whether there will be a whole new cast of antagonists or not, players can rest assured as they will at least encounter a different type of enemy during their first hour in the game.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is currently in development for Mobile devices.
