Getting the Ultimate Personas for Persona 4 Golden's Investigation Team involves maxing out their Social Links. This will trigger a second awakening, after which they'll learn a unique skill that can't normally be gained upon leveling up. Unfortunately, some patience and effort is required to get the protagonist's Ultimate Persona: Izanagi-no-Okami.

There are a few requirements to getting Izanagi-no-Okami in Persona 4 Golden. By the time most players will be able to get him, they'll probably be in the endgame. In the last few dungeons, some may not even find it worth fusing Izanagi-no-Okami, but they'll need him in order to get the "The Power of Truth" trophy/achievement.

How to Unlock Izanagi-no-Okami

persona-4-protag-ultimate-persona-1

Izanagi-no-Okami is a unique Ultimate Persona in that he's the only Persona of the World Arcana. Players may have already noticed that none of the protagonist's Social Links are aligned with "World." Izanagi-no-Okami doesn't appear in regular fusions and can only be fused through a Dodecagon Fusion. On a first playthrough, this Fusion will be unavailable. So, to unlock Izanagi-no-Okami and the dodecagon fusion, the following is required:

  • Unlock the True Ending: The final boss in the True Ending is Izanami, not Ameno-Sagiri or Kusumi-no-Okami.
  • Be playing on a New Game+ file.
  • Make sure the protagonist's level is equal to or higher than Izanagi-no-Okmai's (level 91).
  • Have enough money to purchase any Personas required for the Fusion.

Unlike other Personas, Izanagi-no-Okami cannot be registered in the compendium, meaning he'll have to be fused with each NG+ if players want to have him on the roster. This also means that if players get rid of him, they'll have to fuse him again.

Players should keep in mind that the Fusion Formulas column consists of just one recipe out of multiple. Some Persona, like Nata Taisha, have multiple fusion recipes while others like Norn only have one. It's also worth noting that the protagonist's level needs to be the same or higher than the target Persona.

Izanagi-no-Okami: Stats

As far as Izanagi-no-Okami's stats are concerned, he has an 80 in St, Ma, En, Ag, and Lu. All but one of his spells are -dyne tier that hit single targets. He also has passive skills such as Angelic Grace and Victory Cry.

Izanagi-no-Okami resists all Affinities except for Light and Dark. This unfortunately means that the protagonist will still be susceptible to 1HKO moves like Hama and Mudo. Unlike his fellow Investigation Team's Ultimate Personas, Izanagi-no-Okami doesn't have any special/exclusive skills. As a result, depending on where players are in the game, it may not even be worth getting Izanagi-no-Okami. He will gain a new Skill each time he levels though since he'll be fused at level 91. Here's his Skill List:

Skill

Izanagi-no-Okami: Build

Ideally, players will keep Megidolaon and Mind Charge since Megidolaon will damage targets regardless of their affinity resistances. Megidolaon is also useful when attacking the Golden Hand enemies that can occasionally be found in the dungeons. It's worth using Mind Charge before casting Megidolaon to double the damage and 1HKO most enemies.

Instead of having single target -dyne spells, players should get a Skill Card from another Persona and extract a Ma-dyne spell. For example: Swap out Ziodyne for Maziodyne. They should also keep Angelic Grace and Victory Cry to boost Izanagi-no-Okami's evasion and restore HP/SP after battles. As Victory Cry is completely worthless in boss fights, players may want to swap out Victory Cry with something else.

Finally, it's worth getting Spell Master and Invigorate 3 from Shiva and Satan respectively. Skill Cards are extracted from Personas by taking them to the Chagall Cafe in Okina City. Spell Master cuts the SP cost of skills in half while Invigorate 3 will restore 7 SP each turn. Since Izanagi-no-Okami's best attacks are through magic, it's important to have skills that will reduce and replenish SP without the use of an item.

Players should remember that Izanagi-no-Okami cannot be registered to the Compendium. This means that any Skill Cards that are used on him will not transfer over into a NG+. He can , however, inherit skills from any of the 12 Personas in his Fusion Recipe.

Persona 4 Golden is available now on PSP and Steam. A PC, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass release is scheduled for 2023.
