Chie is one of the first characters to join the party in Persona 4 Golden and she’s often one of the first characters that players can max out their Social Link with. But given the nature of Persona games, players need to be as thoroughly prepared as possible for meet-ups with her to guarantee they don’t waste time and have to spend an extra block of time improving their relationship.

The best way to do this is by giving Chie responses that she likes while hanging out with her. Doing so can give up to three points per answer. Even though Persona 4 Golden is more generous with opportunities to improve relationships and social stats than the PlayStation 2 original, players don’t have that much time to spare if they want to get every Social Link to its maximum level. Here are the correct dialog options for Chie in Persona 4 Golden and how to start a relationship with her.

Chie down by the river with the Protagonist and Nanako in Persona 4

Chie’s Social Link storyline sees her hanging out with Yu Narukami, which transitions into an exploration of her training regimen and relationships with some past classmates. Along the way, players have the chance to talk with her with certain reactions improving one’s relationship with Chie.

Each of these dialog choices are guaranteed to yield maximum Social Link growth and may result in other benefits such as free Social Stats. Players should make sure to raise their Courage Social Stat to rank three before doing the Rank 2 hangout with Chie, and have it at Rank 4 before raising Chie to Rank 7.

Rank 1

  • “Still, now’s the time to train, right?
    • “Right.”
  • “…No?”
    • “I’m cool with it.”

Rank 2

  • “I hope she’s not straining herself. Makes you worry, huh?”
    • “I worry more for you.”

Rank 5

  • “What cowards, ganging up on the weak like that.”
    • “Exactly.”
  • “We’ll grab ‘em and make them apologize! Right, Leader?”
    • “Of course.”

Rank 6

  • Things aren’t looking good…
    • Fight them yourself.
  • “I charged in myself…caused you trouble…
    • “It’s no trouble.”

Rank 7

  • “I feel like I missed the point…”
    • “That’s the first step.”

Where Can I Find Chie?

Players can typically hang out with Chie after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. She can usually be found on the school roof, sitting alone. If she’s not on the school roof, she can usually be found on the south end of Inaba’s Central Shopping District. Chie may not be available on these days due to the weather or certain story events.

Can You Romance Chie?

Players are able to initiate a romantic relationship with Chie once they raise their Social Link with her to Rank 9. Chie’s character arc involves her protecting a student from a group of bullies, expanding on her character after the revelations made in Yukiko’s dungeon.

During the sequence where the Social Link levels up from Rank 8 to Rank 9, main character Yu Narukami is faced with a dialog choice of “will you be my girlfriend?” or “I’m counting on you.” Asking Chie to become his girlfriend will cement a romantic relationship between the characters that cannot be broken off, but players will not have the chance to romance Chie again.

Chie Satonaka in Persona 4

The good news is that regardless of whether the player chooses to romance Chie or not, players can still raise their Social Link with her one more time to see the conclusion of Chie’s story.

Persona 4 Golden is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
