Despite the recent disappointment and criticism surrounding game remakes, some fans seem to still want developers to revisit their old titles. In one such case, avid Persona 3 fans launched a viral Twitter campaign to petition developer Atlus for a remake.

Although the Japanese franchise might be unfamiliar to some, the Persona franchise has gained a lot of traction in the United States since the Western release of Persona 5. Since the latest series entry's 2016 debut, fans have eagerly looked back to previous games and material from the franchise. Presumably, this hunger for more gameplay and content has driven fans to ask for a remake of the iconic game.

Twitter user Stayketchy started the discourse at the end of January with a screenshot of NPC Ryoji Mochizuki saying "January 31, 2020." They subtitled the image with a request to reblog this on January 31 and added the #Persona3Remake hashtag. Other fans added their own wishes for a Persona 3 remake. While some fans wanted an easily accessible and affordable version of the PlayStation 2 game for modern consoles, others proposed that Atlus incorporate more significant changes in order to streamline gameplay. Many older fans also expressed their love for Persona 3 and its colorful characters, as well as their desire to see an updated edition.

While Atlus has not acknowledged the trending social media campaign, fans certainly have some say in the direction of the Persona franchise. As one Twitter user noted, Atlus does hold a customer survey, and a large number of requests might get the attention of the developer. With the franchise's growing popularity abroad, the developer has also previously re-released its games. Persona 5 is getting a re-release with additional content, and Persona 4 has also been updated for its PlayStation Vita port.

Although the hotly discussed Persona 3 remake will likely not appear in the near future, fans of the RPG series still have a lot to look forward to. With the Persona franchise's 25th anniversary in 2021, fans can at least expect two new Persona 5 games. Because the franchise stretches into other mediums, it's likely that Atlus will have content for Persona fans from different sources of entertainment.
