The original Persona 3 was a game-changer for the franchise that not only established the formula for future entries to follow, but also popularized the series to the point where it was deserving of annual releases. Following Persona 3's release in 2006, the series saw the release of Persona 3 FES in Japan the following year, and Persona 4 the year after that. In 2009, the PlayStation Portable received a remake of the original Persona, as well as Persona 3 Portable in Japan, which would release in North America a year later.

After the success of these titles, the floodgates were open for a series of remakes and spin-offs to hit consoles in the coming years. The remake of Persona 2: Innocent Sin for the PSP released in 2011, and its successor Persona 2: Eternal Punishment released in Japan in 2012. From 2012 to 2016, the series saw consistent yearly releases with titles like Persona 4 Golden in 2012, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax in 2013, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth in 2014, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night in 2015 before the Japanese launch of Persona 5 in 2016.

When Persona 5 released internationally in 2017 to near universal acclaim, it was clear the series was headed towards even bigger growth than it had previously seen with past entries. This release kicked off a new wave of spin-off titles including Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth all releasing in 2018. A year later, the enhanced Persona 5 Royal released in Japan with an international release the following year in 2020 and no sign of the series slowing down its release schedule anytime soon as Persona 5 Strikers released the same year in Japan and world-wide in 2021.

Although 2022 was a lighter year for the series, it did see the release of Persona 5 Royal on the PC, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. So far, 2023 has been a big year for the series, with Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden getting ports on modern platforms and the release of Persona 5 Tactica coming later this year. The future is looking bright for Persona fans with Persona 3 Reload coming early next year, and while Persona 6 still might be a few years away, the consistency of ther series' release schedule likely means there will be more titles for players to look forward to in the meantime.

Persona 3 Reload will be released on February 2, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
