Social links were first introduced in Persona 3, and many features Atlus was trying out in the game didn't make it into the sequels. Several Social Link features from these sequels are now in Persona 3 Reload, but the developers have kept one feature from Persona 3 that never made it into other games: the Reverse.

In other Persona games, you can make bad choices during Social Link or Confidant scenes, and this will force you to spend time with your friends between scenes. This is also true of Persona 3 Reload, but you can also make decisions so terrible that your relationship grinds to a halt. This is what the game calls a Reverse.

Here's how you can start the Justice Social Link in Persona 3 Reload as well as the best answers to Rank Up fast.

What Causes a Reverse?

The idea of the Reverse comes from the "relationship bomb," which is a common game mechanic in the Japanese dating games that inspired the Social Link system. When players trigger a bomb, their relationship with the person in question will drop significantly.

The way you cause a Reverse is by saying or doing something that isn't just bad, but is actively offensive. You also have to be on the character's romance path. Fortunately, Persona 3 Reload will warn you just before the choice by saying "If I make the wrong move here, I might upset her," or something similar.

For instance, during the Rank 5 cutscene for the Justice Arcana, you can start the romance path by saying "Yeah, she's in love." Later on, Chihiro will ask the protagonist to do something with her, and your options are "Hold her hand," "Kiss her," and "Speak to her softly." If you try to kiss her, Chihiro will get angry, and her Arcana card will flip over and turn red.

How to Fix a Reverse

The Reversed character will still show up in their usual spot, but the card that marks their availability will be red and upside-down, or reversed. Fortunately, you can undo the damage you caused by speaking to them and either apologizing or begging for their forgiveness. You must do so three times on three separate days to flip their card back over, and you must then wait until a fourth day comes for them to spend time with them again. On the bright side, speaking to a Reversed character doesn't pass the time.

An easier way to deal with a Reverse is to go back in time so that it never happened. Unlike the original game, Persona 3 Reload has a convenient Rewind feature in the System menu that lets you return to an earlier free period. Simply replay the Social Link scene and don't make the decision that caused the Reverse. Some players might not want to take the easy way out, but it's an option if you want to use it.
