A gameplay feature added in Persona 3 Portable is missing persons, and they also feature in Persona 3 Reload. Starting in June, people will occasionally wake up during the Dark Hour and end up in Tartarus. SEES can rescue them by exploring the tower. If you don't find them before the next full moon, they'll disappear forever, but if you do find them, they'll leave a reward that Officer Kurosawa will hand off to the protagonist.

The Persona 3 Reload version of this feature is largely the same as P3P, but the new game makes a few adjustments. Missing persons are on different floors, and the rewards are often new. However, the deadlines are the same as they were before, and if you fail to find them, you can permanently lose out on two of your Social Links.

Where to Find Every Missing Person

Persona 3 Reload Missing Bulletins

Every missing persons case follows a specific formula:

  • Elizabeth contacts the protagonist during the Early Morning and informs him that one or two people have entered Tartarus.
  • Players can check the TV on the same day or the bulletin board in front of the Paulownia Mall police station on any day to learn the names of whoever went missing.
  • You can also go to the Quests menu to check the status of missing persons. However, this menu won't have their names until you've checked the bulletin board, watched TV, or rescued them.
  • Your last chance to rescue someone is the day before the next full moon. Aside from that, it doesn't matter how long you take to find them.
  • Missing persons always appear in the most recently unlocked section of Tartarus.
  • If you speak to Elizabeth in Tartarus, she can give you a floor range for the missing person on the lowest floor.
  • When you reach a teleporter floor, Fuuka will mention whether a missing person is on the next few floors or further up.
  • If you previously reached a floor a missing person appears on, Fuuka will know exactly which floor they're on.
  • If you leave the level a missing person is on, you can always come back later to try and find them again.
  • When you find someone in Tartarus, you can choose to bring them back or ask for an escort. Bringing them back will reset you to the first floor, and asking for an escort will let you continue exploring Tartarus where you left off.
  • After rescuing someone, Officer Kurosawa will give you a reward the next time you speak to him.
  • If there are still missing persons in Tartarus a few days before the full moon, Elizabeth will send you a text message in the evening warning you that time is running out. No new missing persons will appear in Tartarus after she sends this message (at least until the next lunar cycle), making it a good evening to explore the tower. However, you can continue to wait until the deadline if you prefer.

Two of the missing persons are Social Link characters. As noted in the table above, these are Bunkichi Kitamura (associated with the Hierophant arcana) and Maiko Oohashi (associated with the Hanged Man arcana). If you fail to find them in time, you'll get locked out of their Social Links for the rest of the game. This will happen regardless of the current rank of their Social Link, or even if you've started their Social Link in the first place. Elizabeth will also warn you that "you may know the person who went missing this time."

Missing Cats

Persona 3 Reload Missing Cat

A new feature in Persona 3 Reload is the missing cat. They work similarly to missing persons, but with a few key differences:

  • You'll never hear about missing cats while outside of Tartarus. Instead, Elizabeth will warn you a cat has appeared when you enter the first floor.
  • New missing cats can appear each time you visit Tartarus.
  • Missing cats always appear on floors you've previously explored.
  • Rescuing a cat gives you around three to six Twilight Fragments on the spot.
  • Based on what Elizabeth says and the way the cats behave, they're in no real danger from Shadows and wander in and out of Tartarus all the time.

Finding missing cats is always useful thanks to the value of Twilight Fragments, but you should always focus on missing persons if you have to choose between the two.
