In Persona 3 Reload, players will encounter several unique bosses behind special Monad Doors. These shadows pose a significant challenge, similar to the Formidable Shadows that roam the halls of Tartarus. While not as difficult as the Full Moon shadows, or the barrier shadows that often halt progression in Tartarus, Monad Door bosses still require a sound strategy and the party's full attention.

The Emperor Beetle is one of Persona 3 Reload's Monad Door bosses. Found in the Tziah region, it will not be faced until roughly three-quarters of the way through the game. By this time, players should have all party members available to use in the fight, allowing for multiple members to target the enemy's weakness each turn. This guide will reveal Emperor Beetle's weakness, and provide a general strategy for success in combat.

How to Beat the Emperor Beetle in Persona 3 Reload

P3R-Monad-Door

The Emperor Beetle is a Monad Door boss found in the mid-level Tziah region of Tartarus, roughly between the 145th and 154th floors. Like many of the Beetle class of shadows, the Emperor Beetle is something of a tank, with a considerable amount of HP at its disposal. However, by exploiting its weakness with at least two party members each round, the player can leave very little room for the enemy to mount an effective combat strategy.

When fighting the Emperor Beetle, consider using the following strategies to ensure success:

  • While it is possible to defeat the Emperor Beetle with any party makeup, consider using Junpei and Koromaru, both of which have fire-based spells at their disposal (unless the player has chosen to 'forget' those spells in favor of others, in which case they may use whomever they wish.)
  • Given the Emperor Beetle's ability to block both Strike and Slash attacks, it is likely better to focus on spells in this fight. Take stock of each member's SP level before entering any Monad Door. Utilize any SP-refilling items if needed, and if the opportunity presents itself, use Persona 3 Reload's Clock feature, which is found at the entrance level, and on some floors.
  • The Emperor Beetle uses powerful physical attacks, so keep an eye on the party's HP as frequently as possible. Even if it seems like the party has a lot of health, an attack like Gigantic Fist can do incredible damage.
  • Consider using Aigis or Ken as the final member of the party, as they both use Pierce-based attacks, which is the one Physical Attack that the Emperor Beetle cannot block.

If the player finds themselves entering a fight with the Emporer Beetle, and they have no party member that uses fire-based attacks, keep in mind that all party members can use Gems. Many players will stock up on these items and not even realize it, so make sure to press R1/RB when hovering over an enemy during combat. If there is any item that can target an enemy's weakness in the inventory, the game will find it, and prepare it for use.
