Persona 3 Reload is filled with difficult enemies known as Formidable Shadows. These enemies are spread throughout Tartarus, and provide players with a challenging change of pace as they scale the massive, labyrinthine tower. And though all of Persona 3 Reload's Formidable Shadows present a considerable increase in difficulty compared to the basic shadows, nearly all have a weakness that can be exploited with great effect.

Champion Knight is a prime example of the Formidable Shadow. First encountered on the upper floors of Yabbashah, this dangerous shadow can overwhelm the party fairly quickly if not prepared. Luckily, the Champion Knight has a weakness that can be targeted by multiple party members, making the fight much more manageable. This guide will explain that weakness, and provide players with several key strategies for success.

Champion Knight is weak to Dark.

  • Champion Knight is weak to any Dark-based attack. There are several useful Persona under the Death Arcana that the protagonist can use. The Eiga spell is especially useful here.
  • Champion Knight is resistant to all physical attacks, as well as Lightning.

How to Beat the Champion Knight in Persona 3 Reload

As mentioned earlier, the Champion Knight is a Formidable Shadow that will be encountered on the upper floors of the Yabbashah block of Tartarus. While it is not quite as difficult as the shadow guardians that act as barriers between floors, it can still destroy the party fairly easily if it is underestimated. Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure when the Champion Knight will emerge from the Formidable Shadow, so players should consider the following strategies while exploring floors 95-117:

  • Fuse High-Level Persona from Death Arcana: There are several Persona that use Dark-based spells. Pale Rider, Loa, and Samael are all great options.
  • Keep Koromaru in the party at all times: The upper level of Yabbashah contains multiple enemies that are weak to Dark. Given that Dark is Cerebus' (Koromaru's Persona) attack affinity, this will ensure that at least one member of the party can target the Champion Knight's weakness.
  • Focus on Dark damage, not Instakill: Many of the Persona that use Dark-based attacks have two types of spells. The first option simply does Dark damage, but the other gives a chance for an instakill. While it is not impossible for an instakill to work, the chances are far better when aiming for damage. It is not worth wasting an attack on the small chance that an instakill is successful.
  • Avoid Persona Weak to Electricity and Pierce: Pay close attention to your Persona's weaknesses. Champion Knight uses Electricity-based spells, and very powerful Pierce and Strike attacks. Check the affinities of all party-members and switch if Champion Knight is successfully targeting weaknesses.
