Highlights

  • Persona 3 Reload has sold over 1 million copies in its first six days on the market.
  • This achievement makes it the fastest-selling game in Atlus history.
  • While the RPG's multi-platform release undoubtedly contributed to its launch week sales success, its day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass presumably did the opposite.

Persona 3 Reload has already surpassed 1 million in lifetime sales. This achievement makes Persona 3 Reload the fastest-selling Atlus game of all time.

The remake of the third mainline entry in the beloved RPG series was released for PC and the last two generations of Xbox and PlayStation consoles on February 2. Persona 3 Reload immediately received immense critical acclaim, with countless fans and reviewers alike praising its faithfulness to the original combined with quality-of-life improvements, such as the ability to rewind time even without saving the game.

Persona 3 Reload Fans Aren't Happy With Its DLC

While Persona 3 Reload is currently enjoying historic success, some of its fans are less than happy with a portion of its DLC.

The RPG's early commercial momentum managed to match its marvelous critical reception, with Atlus just confirming as much; taking to Twitter on February 8, the Sega subsidiary shared the game's launch week performance, revealing that Persona 3 Reload reached 1 million in worldwide sales after only six days. The speed at which the RPG managed to hit that milestone makes it the fastest-selling Atlus game ever made. Although the studio did not offer a breakdown of the title's performance by platform, Valve's own data indicates that Steam greatly contributed to the early adoption rate of Persona 3 Reload.

Looking at the bigger picture, another factor that has undoubtedly played a part in this historic success is the fact that Persona 3 Reload is the first new mainline series entry that was treated to a simultaneous multi-platform release, launching on all modern gaming systems bar the Nintendo Switch. And while that "new" label comes with the provision that the game is only a remake instead of a completely fresh experience, that only makes its ability to pull such a large audience at the full price of $70 all the more impressive.

Ditto for the fact that Persona 3 Reload was a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, which likely cannibalized its sales to some degree. Its addition to Microsoft's subscription service certainly didn't go unnoticed, as underlined by the fact that it's been featured in the Xbox Game Pass "Most Popular" section for six days straight. The uppermost carousel of the Xbox app's Game Pass section has also been advertising the RPG's release for the past week.

Persona 3 Reload Is Rumored To Be Just the Beginning

Despite this immensely successful launch, Atlus may not be eager to rest on its laurels, with some recent data-mining efforts suggesting that Persona 3 Reload will also receive at least one more piece of DLC. That expansion is said to be a reimagining of The Answer, an epilogue chapter that's currently missing from the game but was a big selling point of Persona 3 FES on the PS2. Additionally, a credible Atlus insider has recently reported that the company is currently working on three more Persona remakes, stating that new versions of Persona 1, 2, and 4 are all in the pipeline.
