BBC and Netflix's English mafia show Peaky Blinders is slowly coming to the end. The sixth season, which is currently wrapping up editing and is set to release in the spring of 2022, has been revealed will be the last season of the show. However, the Peaky Blinders universe won't end there, according to the series creator Steven Knight.

Knight recently stated that after the upcoming sixth season of Peaky Blinders, he will be writing a feature film based around the BBC and Netflix show's universe. Knight has not revealed many details yet about the film, but he stated filming should begin in 2023 and the project will be shot and set in Birmingham, England.

According to Knight, who confirmed the news to Variety, the film will mark the final cinematic contribution to Peaky Blinders, at least under his directive eye. While Knight stated that he himself would not be interested in writing a spin-off series for Peaky Blinders, he did state that it is on the table that someone else could make a spin-off show or even multiple spin-offs. Whether or not the main cast of the show will be joining the crew has not yet been revealed.

To help support students in production, the Peaky Blinders film will include what Knight is calling a "Second Unit" of film students on its production team. The collaboration comes in partnership with the BBC Academy, Birmingham City University, and Birmingham Film Academy. Knight stated that he thinks it's a "shame" that many interns and students are not offered real experiences in production, and this would give them the opportunity to do so.

Peaky Blinders is an intense period crime drama following a family that runs a gang in post-World War I England. The show is star-studded with Cillian Murphy, the late Helen McCrory, and Paul Anderson, among others who are a part of the continuing main cast. The show currently spans between the years of 1919 through 1929 as the family expands their crime syndicate, hitting more than a few roadblocks and tragedies along the way.

Knight is known for his incredible storytelling that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats throughout the drama. With season sixth of Peaky Blinders officially listed as the last season of the show, there is sure to be a series of intense encounters to fade out the story. Hopefully, more details about the upcoming film will be released following the finale of season 6 this spring.
