Before consoles ended up becoming the dominant platform for playing video games, there was a time when PC gaming reigned supreme. Everything from fast-paced FPS titles to story-driven CRPGs dominated this platform, allowing gamers to enrapture themselves in some epic titles that are still considered fan favorites and classics to this very day.

In fact, some of the classic titles released on PC were so brilliant that some would argue that greenlighting a sequel for these games would be a wise course of action to take, seeing that most players would love a continuation of nostalgic and high-quality titles that deserve as much love and recognition as possible.

Keeping this in mind, here are ten of the greatest classics on the PC that deserve a sequel.

10 Arcanum: Of Steamworks And Magick Obscura

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

Ever since crowdsourcing and indie gaming have taken off, the CRPG genre has seen somewhat of a resurgence with multiple games released in this genre that have either continued the legacy of existing CRPGs or established new stalwarts in the genre. In the case of the former, many reputed CRPG franchises have become relevant in modern times... except for one particular title.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is an excellent title that deserves all the love it gets, made by Troika Games — a name familiar to players of excellent role-playing titles. It's a shame that this franchise hasn't been picked up for a sequel or remake in the modern era since it definitely deserves one.

9 Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines

Speaking of Troika Games, one can't help but mention one of their most popular and beloved titles... that was also one of the major causes of their downfall and closure as a studio.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is a brilliant depiction of what deep and interesting role-playing titles can achieve... although the experience is definitely marred by the final act of the game that feels rushed and bland compared to the strong introduction of this title.

While Bloodlines 2 might've been announced, the news surrounding this sequel isn't great, and one can only wait and see before this sequel lives up to the lofty expectations set by its predecessor.

8 System Shock 2

System Shock 2

Speaking of games in the immersive sim genre, one can't help but mention a classic sci-fi horror title that genuinely deserves the title of being one of the greatest games worthy of being a classic — System Shock 2.

Going through the desolate and chilling halls of the UNN Rickenbacker is a blast, and one can't wait to see how the remakes and sequels that have been announced for this series will stack up in comparison to this beloved classic.

7 Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

A bonafide classic for the PC that still holds the tagline of being a passionate title with an intriguing gameplay loop that has no end in sight, Dwarf Fortress is a special simulation title that is incredibly deep and complex — one of the major deterrents for new players who want to get into this title.

However, players who manage to grasp the complex mechanics of this title will be rewarded with a rich and fulfilling experience that is very much worthy of a sequel that improves on every aspect of Dwarf Fortress' masterful gameplay loop.

6 Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos

Warcraft III Reign Of Chaos

While Blizzard Entertainment's reputation might not be at its highest right now, there's no denying the glory years of this developer and the brilliant games that came along with it, such as the brilliant Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.

It's the amazing quality of this RTS that has sparked such a massive backlash against the inferior remake of this title. So, it's only a given that a sequel to this brilliant title would break the internet in every way... although the complications of the story — given the developments in World of Warcraft — could be hard to incorporate.

5 Grim Fandango

Grim Fandango

Point-and-click adventure titles were extremely popular during the golden age of PC gaming, with most games in this genre turning into full-blown franchises in record time. However, there was one exception to the norm — Grim Fandango.

The fact that the brilliant Tim Schafer designed this amazing title is indicative of this title's amazing quality... which makes it rather odd that this title — just like most of Schafer's works — is yet to receive a sequel to this day.

4 Day Of The Tentacle

Day Of The Tentacle

Speaking of games that Tim Schafer has worked on, one can't fail to mention the brilliance of Maniac Mansion 2, more commonly known by its official moniker — Day of the Tentacle.

The trademark quirkiness of LucasArts' script and humor was on full display in this title, which certainly deserved a remake that was released in 2016. However, Day of the Tentacle ended up being the last chapter in the Maniac Mansion series, with no news of a sequel to this day — a shame, since this title definitely deserves one.

3 Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Sid Meier's Civilization series is easily one of the most notable grand 4X strategy titles that have become a staple of PC gaming, but veterans of this series will remember the spiritual successor to this franchise that depicted a science fiction setting that was incredibly riveting.

It's a shame that Alpha Centauri is a standalone title to this day since players would obviously want to see more of what this gripping universe would have to offer in a sequel.

2 Age Of Mythology

Age Of Mythology

It would be impossible to talk about classic PC titles without mentioning the spinoff to the Age of Empires series that was widely beloved by many — Age of Mythology.

While the multiplayer of this title was sublime in its own right, due props should be given to the incredible single-player campaign of this title, with Arkantos' story being absolutely riveting to play through from start to end.

It's a shame that such a successful spinoff never managed to get a well-deserved sequel.

1 Rise Of Nations

Rise Of Nations

Speaking of RTS classics on the PC, it would be hard not to give due props to the brilliant and underrated Rise of Nations. The tight nature of this title's gameplay, coupled with an interesting campaign, made for a game that was an absolute must-play for any fan of the RTS genre.

It goes without saying that any announcement of a sequel to this beloved title will be met with positive reception across the board.
