Announced at The Game Awards, Den of Wolves is the latest game coming from 10 Chambers, a studio known for GTFO and made up of former Payday developers including Ulf Andersson. 10 Chambers, a relatively newer indie studio based in Sweden, actually has a long history with heist games. Many people at the studio, including GTFO director Ulf Andersson have a long history with the Payday franchise, a very popular heist shooter that has gone to recieve numerous sequels. Unfortunately, the latest title in the franchise, Payday 3, quickly became one of the biggest disappointing games of 2023 due to a less than favorable launch with server issues and other problems.

After leaving the Payday franchise and founding 10 Chambers, the team went in a different direction by announcing an atmospheric horror shooter known as GTFO. A team of four scavengers are tasked with exploring an underground complex at the behest of a mysterious entity known as The Warden, carrying out tasks and attempting to survive the horrors waiting. GTFO has a long history with The Game Awards, being first revealed in 2017 and then announcing the game's full launch in 2021, so it makes sense that 10 Chambers would again partner with the end of year showcase to reveal its latest project.

Tencent Buys Stake in GTFO Developer 10 Chambers

Tencent acquires 'a major stake' in Swedish developer 10 Chambers, known for the cooperative survival horror first-person shooter GTFO.

Ulf Andersson once again joined Geoff Keighley at The Game Awards 2023 to reveal that 10 Chambers is planning to go back to its roots for the next title known as Den of Wolves. Through a new trailer, Den of Wolves is a techno-thriller cooperative heist game set in the near future where rival mega-corporations compete with one another through industrial espionage and other unauthorized errands. According to 10 Chambers, Den of Wolves players will need to work together to execute futuristic and mind-bending heists that blur the lines of reality.

In terms of gameplay, players will be attempting these heists in Midway City, switching often between stealth and full-on first person shooting. Players will have access to high-tech weapons and gadgets, working for various corporations to sabotage rival businesses and extract high-value data directly from the minds of corporate leaders. Indie games studio 10 Chambers and its co-founder Simon Viklund confirmed that Den of Wolves isn't an open world game, but the team has made sure to make Midway City feel like a believable futuristic city by building out its history and narrative elements where corproations have largely taken over.

Having worked on heist games in the past which channeled classic bank robbery themes, we wanted to take Den of Wolves in an exciting new direction that allows us to elevate what a heist can be. You can only rob so many banks. Den of Wolves’ sci-fi themes and gameplay elements gave us the freedom to offer more variety in heists — incorporating corporate espionage, sabotage, and assassinations.

As it stands, Den of Wolves doesn't have a confirmed release date or window, but interested players can wishlist the game on Steam, keeping up to date on current developments until it is eventually ready for release. Considering that GTFO initially released in Early Access for a few years before launching in full, it's highly likely that Den of Wolves will likely be following a similar pathway.
