One of the core mechanics of any Payday game is the ability to shout. When it comes to Payday 3, it’s not made specifically clear how to actually shout, which is a bit of a nuisance considering it essential to crowd control, and ensuring no civilian gets too brave to call the police, head for an alarm, or simply run away with their lives unscathed. Thus bringing forth the question of how to shout in Payday 3.

Players have more voice commands available in Payday 3. They can comment on the drill, they can say some pretty foul language, and they can also say hello. Yet, the most important voice command is the ability to shout, so players can take control of their heists without the need for police interference.

How To Shout In Payday 3

Shouting in Payday 3 works a little bit differently from what players are used to, and they have changed the mechanics to make things a little easier than in Payday 2. No longer will all heisters have to spam the shout button, nor will they have to worry about the civilian not complying, or deciding to stand up and run away. Now, all it takes is players to shout once. After a civilian has been successfully intimidated and surrendered, players won’t be allowed to shout at them again due to the fact that they are complying.

When the player has been caught by a civilian, they can shout at them by pressing the Middle Mouse Button on the PC or the Up Button on the D-Pad for consoles.

Players can either shout at civilians by aiming their gun towards them, or simply by doing it whilst pointing at their location. It’s advised that players change the shout button on PC because clicking in the middle mouse button isn’t the easiest, and Payday 3 offers solo or multiple players the ability to change all of their key bindings.

After shouting at the civilians, the NPC will either kneel or raise their hands, allowing players to either take them as a human shield or tie them up. In Payday 3, players have access to an unlimited amount of cable ties. It’s also worth noting that shooting near a civilian (preferably with a silenced weapon) will work just like shouting does and cause them to comply, which is essential for crowd control and ensuring police negotiation, or, a lack of panic when trying to stealth a heist.

The fact that players cannot spam the shout button in Payday 3 may confuse some Payday 2 players, but it’s an intended design choice by Starbreeze. Players need to shout at NPCs, and when the ‘!’ above their head has gone, it means that they are complying.

Payday 3 is out now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
