Following the release of Payday 3, players aren’t happy with the direction of the game’s challenges and progression system. One of the main issues that players have with Payday 3 is many don’t feel like they have any gameplay freedom in order to earn experience. The amount of XP given after completing a heist is also causing problems with leveling up.

Payday 3 was recently released on September 21 allowing players to get their hands on the heist-robbing title. Since then, the game has seen negative feedback regarding Payday 3’s launch issues such as servers not responding or constant crashes. The title’s review scores are currently averaged at a 70 on Metacritic as players have mixed feelings about the game.

Players find themselves disappointed with the way Payday 3 goes about rewarding XP in the game. XP is primarily obtained by completing challenges, but the downside to this is that it forces players to play a certain way. Some challenges are requiring players to play loud versus choosing to be stealthy, and vice versa. Fans of the series are expressing this disappointment on the game’s Reddit page. Payday 3 developers have listened to fans in the past, so there’s a possibility the team will address this issue.

Another dilemma with the game’s challenge system is that many feel like it’s a tedious chore. Some of the challenges require players to do certain tasks such as doing a single heist 150 times. The payoff at times might not be anywhere near enough to level up players. This makes the completion feel like a waste of time. This has caused gamers to be frustrated with Payday 3 and ask for the developers to overhaul the system. Combined with Payday 3’s technical issues, some fans aren’t happy with their experience.

Payday 3 wasn’t the first game to adopt this method of progression as the multiplayer version of Halo Infinite did the same thing. Much like Payday 3, fans of Infinite’s multiplayer weren’t happy with the game's challenge and progression system. 343 Industries overhauled the system and added match XP to Halo Infinite. Many fans on the Payday 3 Reddit page are asking for the same change to be made.

Taking a page from Infinite’s book, Payday 3 would be able to make amends with the player base. The developers still have server issues in Payday 3 to sort out as some gamers are still unable to play it. Given how vocal the community is, it’s probable that the challenge and progression system may be addressed in the future.

Payday 3 is out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
