There is something undeniably cool about giant reptiles stomping their way through the dense foliage of a prehistoric rainforest. It’s thus unsurprising that dinosaurs and video games go back a long way, and even the specific pitch of a dinosaur survival MMO isn’t unprecedented. However, whereas something like Ark: Survival Evolved sees players fighting or taming prehistoric beasts, indie MMO Path of Titans lets dinosaur fans role-play as their favorite giant reptiles.

Developed by the Australian studio Alderon Games, Path of Titans recently released for PC, iOS, and Android. However, the dinosaur simulation game won’t be exclusive to those platforms for long, with developers announcing the launch of its upcoming console edition. Xbox and PlayStation users will be able to jump into Path of Titans when it releases for current and last-gen consoles on July 27.

Alderon Games announced Path of Titans’ upcoming console release date with a new trailer. It showcases the range of playable dinosaurs visiting a swampy watering hole, accompanied by various other examples of Jurassic flora and fauna. The trailer gives special attention to the new Tyrannosaurs Rex, which also joins the game on July 27. The hulking lizard certainly has a commanding presence, but the trailer also demonstrates how the T. Rex is hardly the jungle’s absolute ruler. The hulking Triceratops more than holds its own against the bipedal predator, while the crocodile-like Sarcosuchus bides its time before leaping out of the water in a surprise attack.

The trailer isn’t all dinosaur-on-dinosaur violence, of course. Triceratopses tend to their young as other dinosaurs drink and splash in the murky jungle water. However, the aquatic ambush predator serves as a reminder that the wild is never truly safe, and the top of the food chain is not as clear-cut as some might believe.

The addition of the T. Rex brings Path of Titans up to 27 playable dinosaurs. In addition to the Tyrannosaurus and Sarcosuchus, playable Carnivores include the Allosaurus, Alioramus, Ceratosaurus, Concavenator, Daspletosaurus, Deinonychus, Latenivenatrix, Megalania, Metriacanthosaurus, Spinosaurus, and Suchomimus. Meanwhile, Herbivores include Amargasaurus, Anodontosaurus, Barsboldia, Camptosaurus, Deinocheirus, Eotriceratops, Iguanodon, Kentrosaurus, Lambeosaurus, Stegosaurus, Struthiomimus, Styracosaurus, and the above-mentioned Triceratops. Path of Titans also includes five non-playable creatures, including prehistoric sharks, turtles, mammals, and amphibians.

Most of Path of Titans’ dinosaurs come from the Cretaceous Period, though a few creatures were present from the Jurassic Period and earlier. These are differences of tens to hundreds of millions of years, making Path of Titans about as historically accurate as cavemen fending off Velociraptors. However, “the rule of cool” seems to be in effect for this multiplayer dinosaur game.

Path if Titans is available now on PC, Android, and iOS and releases on July 27 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
