Square Enix recently uploaded a video to YouTube featuring All Elite Wrestling star Kenny Omega interviewing game producer Yoshinori Kitase, who was the director of the original Final Fantasy 7 and is serving as producer of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake. During the interview, Omega asked some questions about other Square Enix franchises, asking Kitase directly about the dormant survival-horror/action-RPG series Parasite Eve.

During the interview, Omega pointed out how Kitase was a producer for the PSP game The 3rd Birthday, which launched all the way back in 2010 as a PSP exclusive. Omega asked Kitase if he would like to see more Parasite Eve games in the future, to which Kitasei responded, "The characters are very deep and rich, especially Aya Brea. I don't know of any plans right now, but it would be a waste to not use those characters."

While some fans may be disappointed to learn that a new Parasite Eve game is apparently not in active development, at least to Kitase's knowledge, his acknowledgment that it would be a "waste" to not use the characters should give fans hope. Whether a new Parasite Eve game came in the form of a remake or a brand new entry remains to be seen, but it's safe to say fans would be happy with either possibility.

Kitase's comments in the interview aren't the first sign that Square Enix hasn't completely abandoned the Parasite Eve franchise. Last year, Square Enix renewed the Parasite Eve trademark in Europe, and while companies do that all the time to protect their IP, it could very well be a sign that it plans on releasing a new game in the series at some point down the line.

There was also a Parasite Eve easter egg hidden in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake E3 trailer from 2015, which could be taken as another sign that Square Enix has plans for the franchise in some capacity. However, it's worth pointing out that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has changed dramatically from its original version, so it's quite possible that the Parasite Eve reference has been removed.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's launch is just a month away, so fans should be able to jump in and search for Parasite Eve easter eggs sooner rather than later.

Parasite Eve is available for PS1.
