Where to Find Pit of 100 Trials in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

To begin your adventure through the Pit of 100 Trials, you'll first need to find its location. To locate the pit, start by heading towards the Pianta Parlor in the western section of Rogueport, the first city in the game. From here, you'll notice a storm drain to the right of the parlor. Slip through the cracks in the drain using Paper Mode to reach the sewers underneath Rogueport.

Once you are in here, jump on the moving platforms to your right. Then, go down to the lower floor and head through the vertical green pipe at the back. Down here, walk across the path and go down the staircase. At the bottom, you'll notice a crack in the wall with some paper coming off. Use Madame Flurrie to blow away the paper, and then go down the green pipe. You will then arrive at the Pit of 100 Trials.

When you go through the Pit of 100 Trials, there are a select few characters that we recommend prioritizing here. These characters will have abilities that can support Mario, as well as deal damage to multiple enemies at once. Here are some of the best characters to use.

Vivian

Vivian is one of the best characters you can bring along through the Pit of 100 Trials. This is due to the fact she can use attacks that can burn multiple enemies and deal damage over time, and she can help Mario to avoid attacks using her Veil ability.

Overall, she's a very powerful character that will easily get you through all 100 levels of the Pit of 100 Trials, and she also doesn't consume a ton of FP with her abilities, making her very efficient.

Admiral Bobbery

Admiral Bobbery is one of the best characters to utilize throughout the whole game, and this includes through the Pit of 100 Trials. He has a few attacks that will damage multiple enemies at once, and his abilities will deal the most damage out of all the partners Mario can have.

His only negative is that his Ultra Rank skill, Bob-ombast, uses up nine FP, so he can be quite costly. However, if you come prepared with items, you should have no problems here.

Koops

If you haven't focused on upgrading Vivian or Admiral Bobbery with Shine Sprites, Koops is a decent replacement for the two. He has attacks like Power Shell and Shell Slam that will deal damage to multiple enemies at once, making him quite useful throughout the majority of the Pit of 100 Trials.

Koops' attacks don't use much FP either, with his Ultra Rank skill, Shell Slam, only requiring six FP as opposed to Admiral Bobbery's nine FP. He can also help protect Mario with his Shell Shield ability. His main issue, however, is that his attacks can only hit ground enemies.

When taking on the Pit of 100 Trials, you will also want to come prepared with the right items and Badges to ensure you defeat your enemies with ease. Here are some of the best options to choose from.

Best Items for Pit of 100 Trials

  • Boo's Sheet - This item will allow you to become invisible for a certain period of time, avoiding enemy attacks.

  • Power Punch - This item will increase your attack power.
  • Stop Watch - This item will immobilize enemies for a short period of time.
  • Zess Deluxe - Zess Deluxe is a recipe that will restore 40 HP and 40 FP.
  • Zess Dynamite - This item can be thrown at enemies to deal a large amount of damage.

  • Feeling Fine or Feeling Fine P - Makes Mario or his partners immune to dizziness and poison.
  • Fire Drive - Deals damage to all ground enemies and burns them.

Tips & Tricks for Pit of 100 Trials

Along with all the recommended characters and items we've provided for you, we also have a few tips you will want to take note of to make your visit to the Pit of 100 Trials easier.

  • First of all, there are no Save Blocks in the Pit of 100 Trials. If you are on Level 50, for example, and leave the pit, you will have to start from Level One all over again.
  • Due to not being able to save, it is best to enter the Pit of 100 Trials when you are higher in level. We recommend going when you are Level 30 or higher.
  • We recommend stacking Badges to make your battles easier. You can stack damage boosting Badges, such as Power Plus and Power Plus P, to make Mario and his partners stronger.
  • Make sure to utilize Stylish Moves. These can greatly increase the Star Power you receive in battle, allowing you to use Special Moves.
  • Make sure to utilize the Movers in the Pit of 100 Trials to skip any floors you don't feel like battling on, although you will lose the chance to stock up on coins. However, remember not to skip the rest floors, such as Level 10, Level 20, Level 30, and so on.
  • Keep in mind that the underground merchant here, Charlieton, will increase his prices as you get further into the Pit of 100 Trials. Make sure to stock up on items as soon as possible to avoid paying more than you need to, and store any items beforehand that you don't need.
