Understanding Star Points in TTYD
What Are They?
Star Points are experience points in The Thousand-Year Door, and you'll need to collect 100 of them to level up Mario. The only way to earn Star Points is by defeating enemies. The amount that Mario earns is calculated by the enemy's level and his own. Naturally, fighting weaker enemies when Mario's level greatly outweighs theirs ensures you won't be getting many Star Points. As you level, you'll want to fight enemies in more-challenging regions.
Best Ways to Farm Star Points
Defeat Every Enemy
The best and only way to farm Star Points is to battle every enemy that crosses your path. This isn't an issue when you're starting a new playthrough, but as your level grows, you'll have a harder time finding enemies that drop a hefty sum of Star Points. Fortunately, there are certain areas and monsters that make Star Point-farming a bit easier:
- Once you unlock the ability to turn sideways, you can squeeze to the far left of the Palace of Shadow's entrance. This will lead you to a warp pipe that takes you to the Pit of 100 Trials.
- Earlier floors (such as 1-9) are easier and have enemies like Gloomba and Dull Bones. Defeating them is a longer process, albeit an easier one, if you're worried about the lower floors (ex: 71-79).
- During the latter phase of your playthrough, you'll want to search for and defeat a type of monster called Amazy Dayzee. They can be found on Floors 90-99 of the Pit of 100 Trials, and along the Twilight Trail (between Twilight Town and Creepy Steeple).
- According to the Tattle mechanic, Amazy Dayzees have "high HP and runs away quickly," meaning you'll need to defeat them as quickly as you can if you want to reap the rewards.
