Shine Sprites are an item in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door that can be used to upgrade any party member of your choosing. With each new upgrade, you will need to hand over 3 Shine Sprites to Merlon to increase your partner's HP, damage from their attacks, and allow them to learn new skills.

In total, there are 42 Shine Sprites in the game that can be found and utilized for partner upgrading. If you are looking to get them all, either to be able to upgrade every party member fully, or just to collect them, here are all of their locations.

All Shine Sprites in Chapter 1 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Paper Mario TTYD_Hooktail Castle

In Chapter 1 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, you will be making a visit to Hooktail Castle to take on the dragon beast Hooktail, who is causing havoc in Petalburg. There are four Shine Sprites in total that can be found in the area.

Hooktail Castle Main Hall

For this first Shine Sprite, you can easily find it in one of the main halls on the first level of Hooktail Castle. It'll be in the middle of the room, with a bunch of Dry Bones surrounding it. You won't need to use any special abilities to grab it.

Hooktail Castle Ms. Mowz Room

For this Shine Sprite, you will want to make your way to the upper levels of Hooktail Castle. When you cross the path with a few broken spots and enter the weapon room, you will meet Ms. Mowz here. When she leaves, there will be a Shine Sprite just at the back of the room above some treasure chests.

Hooktail Castle Boss Door

When you reach the final boss door at the very top of Hooktail Castle, there will be a Shine Sprite just behind the big purple door. This last door will take you outside to the staircase leading to the battle with Hooktail.

Thousand-Year Door Ledge

For this last one, you'll want to head to the Thousand-Year Door room in the Rogueport Sewers. To get this Shine Sprite, start over on the right side of the room. Slip through the cracks in the fence using your Paper Mode ability, and jump on top of the yellow trampoline. There will be a platform up here where you can use your Plane ability to get to the other side. When you land, jump on the yellow trampoline here to get to the top ledge, where you'll find the Shine Sprite.

All Shine Sprites in Chapter 2 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

This section will review all the Shine Sprites available in Chapter 2 of the game, located mostly within Boggly Woods and The Great Tree. There are five in total found in these areas.

Boggly Woods Ledge

To find this Shine Sprite, make your way into Boggly Woods, in the area with a large wooden pipe and a ledge in the middle. Go up the pipe here, and just behind the plane ledge you'll notice a Shine Sprite. Use Koops here, and throw him at the box to get the Shine Sprite.

The Great Tree Puni Bubble Room

Inside The Great Tree, there will be a main room where you can push the Punies intobubbles to reach the other side. At the bottom of this room, there will be a Shine Sprite off to the right. You will only need to jump down to the bottom floor to reach it.

The Great Tree Vase Room

Eventually, inside The Great Tree, you will spot a room that has a large vase on top of a Paper Airplane ledge. Use Madame Flurrie to blow away the vase, and then jump on top of the ledge and use your Plane ability. You will eventually land on another Plane ledge on the right side of the room, where you will want to go into Plane Mode again to reach the left side of the room. There will be a Shine Sprite on this platform.

The Great Tree Puni Totem Room

When you arrive in the room where you obtained the Super Boots, break through the wooden panel on the ground in the middle of the room using your Ground Pound. In the area underneath, there will be a bunch of totem platforms that you can jump across to get to the back of the room, where a Shine Sprite can be obtained.

The Great Tree Lily Pad Room

For this last one, you will arrive in a room with a bunch of lily pads that you will need to fill up with water. Follow the path across the lily pads to the right side of the room, and then jump across to the platform just underneath the Shine Sprite at the back.

All Shine Sprites in Chapter 3 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - Glitzville

In Chapter 3, players will find themselves visiting the town of Glitzville, and taking on some enemies in the Glitz Pit. In this section, you will find six total Shine Sprites.

Glitzville Entrance

For the first Shine Sprite, you will find it directly to the right of the Glitz Pit entrance. To grab this Shine Sprite, hit the ground with your hammer directly underneath the Shine Sprite. This will give Mario a platform to jump on and be able to reach the Shine Sprite box.

Rogueport Sewers

To find this one, head to the western side of Rogueport, and slip through the cracks in the storm drain to the right of the Pianta Parlor to reach the Rogueport Sewers. Jump across to the platform on the left underneath here using Yoshi, and you'll find a Shine Sprite in the middle of the platform.

Glitz Pit Storage Room

While participating in the Glitz Pit, you will eventually be given access to the storage room. Head inside this room, and go up the stairs to the second floor. You'll find a Shine Sprite in the back, on the right side.

Rogueport Near Bobbery's House

Inside the city of Rogueport, head to the eastern side, past the guard who is requesting 10 Coins. Use Yoshi to float over to the other side of the river, and jump up the brown boxes to reach the top of the stone house. Then, slip through the crack between the brown boxes on top of the house to fall to the ground on the other side. Down here, jump on some more boxes to reach the Shine Sprite above.

Rogueport Red Roof

From the stone house you just jumped on top of, this time, float to the left side on top of the brick houses. At the back, you'll notice a red roof sticking up, which you can jump on top of. On the left-hand side of the roof, you'll find a Shine Sprite.

The Pipe Room

For this last one, you are going to head to the Pipe Room where you can fast travel. This is found in the Rogueport Sewers, and our guide can easily lead you to it. At the back of the room, you'll notice a large yellow block. Use your Spin Hammer ability to wind Mario up and break the block. There will be a Shine Sprite behind here.

In Chapter 4 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, we will be visiting Twilight Town, and the Creepy Steeple to take down Doopliss. There are six total Shine Sprites here.

Twilight Trail

On the trail leading up to Creepy Steeple, you'll eventually find a green pipe that will take you to the other side. Just after you enter the next route, there will be a large tree in the front. Jump up just behind the tree, and you'll find a hidden Shine Sprite.

Creepy Steeple Well

When you arrive at Creepy Steeple, there will be a well just to the right of the locked entrance. Jump inside here, and at the very bottom of the first area, there will be a Shine Sprite to your left.

Creepy Steeple Main Hall

Upon immediately entering inside Creepy Steeple from the front, you'll notice a hole in the ground on the left side. Roll through here using the Tube Mode ability, and you will enter inside a small room with a Shine Sprite in the back.

Creepy Steeple Well Back Room

After heading inside the well at the Creepy Steeple, make your way right and push the gate upwards. Then, use Vivian to hide in the ground and come back up when the gate slides back down. Head through the door in front of you, and you will arrive in a room with a Shine Sprite.

Admiral Bobbery's Back Room

Back in Rogueport, you can find Admiral Bobbery's home on the eastern side of the town. Past the gatekeeper, Gus, go to the house just to the left of the Trouble Center. You'll find a door leading to the back room, and a Shine Sprite inside.

Rogueport Western House

Head over to the western section of Rogueport, past the spot where you stepped on Zess T.'s contact lens. Head inside the first house here, and walk up to the top floor. You'll notice a hole in the wall on the right, which you can slip through using your Tube Mode ability. Upon reaching the backyard, go to the right to find a Shine Sprite tucked in the corner.

Chapter 5 will have players visiting the remote island of Keelhaul Key. This section has a whopping total of 11 Shine Sprites to uncover. Here's where to find them.

Keelhaul Key Cliff

While on the path heading to Pirate's Grotto, there will be a small area where you will need to jump across a few grassy platforms to reach the top level. Up here, you'll notice a Shine Sprite to the left. Just fly across using Yoshi to the small block platform, and then jump up to hit the Shine Sprite.

Keelhaul Key Bridge

In the next area leading to Pirate's Grotto, you'll cross a small wooden bridge. On the other side, there will be a section with a couple of palm trees, and a Shine Sprite right next to them.

Pirate's Grotto Wrecked Ship

Upon entering Pirate's Grotto, the first room will have a wrecked ship that you'll need to jump across. While on the ship, you'll spot a Shine Sprite at the top of the ship. Make your way up here slowly to grab the Shine Sprite.

Pirate's Grotto Waterfall

In the fourth room in Pirate's Grotto, there will be a bunch of stone platforms you will want to jump on top of to reach the top level with a waterfall. There will be a Shine Sprite to the left, which you can access by using your hammer to hit a block directly underneath the Shine Sprite. Then, jump on top of the block and grab the Shine Sprite.

Grotto Key Room

Upon accessing the room with two moving chained platforms where you found the Grotto Key, use Admiral Bobbery and throw him on the moving wooden platform to blow up the red exclamation block. This will get the platforms moving. While you are on the right platform, once it is at the top, jump onto the left platform with the wooden box. Once it reaches the top, you'll spot a Shine Sprite on the barrel platform to the left.

Pirate's Grotto Wave Room

Eventually, you'll arrive in a room in Pirate's Grotto that has a bunch of waves, and some spikes coming out of the wall. Just to the right of the entrance, you'll spot a Shine Sprite. Bring out your partner Koops and shoot him across to grab the Shine Sprite for you.

Pirate's Grotto Barrel Room

In the room just directly after the wave room with the wall spikes, you'll spot a Shine Sprite just at the entrance. Use your hammer directly underneath the Shine Sprite to get a platform to appear, which you can jump on top of to reach the Shine Sprite.

Rogueport Western Store

Head back to Rogueport, and make your way to the western side. At the store to the left of Pianta Parlor, you'll notice a cracked wall on the left. Use Admiral Bobbery to blow up this wall, where you'll find a Shine Sprite hidden behind there.

Rogueport Sewers

From the Rogueport Sewers entrance on the eastern side of Rogueport, use the Plane Mode to reach the entrance on the right side of the first room. In this area, change into a boat on the boat platform, and sail to the other side of the room. You'll find a Shine Sprite on a stone platform.

Rogueport Sewers Hidden Room

From the room on Sublevel Two in the Rogueport Sewers where you can enter the Pipe Room, make your way to the left area with the green pipe in the middle. Make your way down the path on the left that is hidden behind here, and you'll end up at a boat platform. Change into a boat, and follow the water to the right. Eventually, you'll reach a room at the end with some enemies, which you can defeat in battle with some Stylish Moves, and three Shine Sprites inside. To reach the high one in the middle, you can use your Spring Jump ability.

All Shine Sprites in Chapter 6 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

In Chapter 6 of the game, you will be arriving in Poshley Heights via the Excess Express. There are seven total Shine Sprites found in Chapter 6.

Excess Express Cabin 005

While on the Excess Express to Poshley Heights, you will find some cabins with numbers above them. Approach Cabin 005, or the one that you start in, and you'll find a Shine Sprite hiding behind the desk here.

Excess Express Cabin 008

The first thing you will need to do to get this Shine Sprite is obtain the Excess Express engineer's autograph. Then, make your way to Cabin 008, and hand over the autograph to Bub the Bob-omb, and he will give you a Shine Sprite in return.

Riverside Station Steps

Upon arriving at Riverside Station, head down the staircase on the eastern side. At the bottom here, you'll spot a Shine Sprite in the corner next to the stairs.

Riverside Station Hidden Stairs

In the sublevels of Riverside Station, you will find a room with three blocks, one with a 1, another with a 10, and another with a 3. Hit these blocks with your hammer based on their number, and some hidden stairs will appear after you press the red button. Make your way up the stairs to the very top of the room, and use Koops to grab the Shine Sprite on the left side.

Outside Poshley Sanctum Entrance

Just outside the entrance to Poshley Sanctum, head to the right-hand corner close to the bushes. You'll spot a Shine Sprite here all the way up, which you can reach by using your Spring Jump.

Poshley Sanctum Ledge

Inside Poshley Sanctum, make your way up to the top of the ledges by using your Spring Jump ability to grab the railings. On the ledge on the second level, head to the very back where you will spot a Shine Sprite on its own.

Rogueport Sewers

Return to the Rogueport Sewers in the town. Make your way immediately to the left through the green door, and head to the back. In this area, jump on top of the white moving platform in the middle, and then head straight. In the middle here, do a Spring Jump, and Mario will grab onto the pipe above. Move across the pipe to the right, and drop to the house below. Jump to the next house's roof, and finally jump onto the green platform. Use another Spring Jump to grab the Shine Sprite.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - General White's House in Fahr Outpost

In the final chapter in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, you can find two total Shine Sprites. You will be taking a trip to the Fahr Outpost region, a snowy area in the north.

Fahr Outpost Path

On the path to the Fahr Outpost, you will find a Shine Sprite hiding behind a snowy tree. Just jump up here to grab it. It will be near to a Ruff Puff enemy.

Fahr Outpost House

For the last Shine Sprite, you'll want to make your way into the main area of Fahr Outpost. On the right side of the town next to the item shop, you'll find a blue and purple house. To the left of the house, there will be a Shine Sprite buried in the snow.
