Highlights

  • Palworld players are frustrated with the steep XP curve between levels 40-50.
  • More updates are planned for Palworld in the future.
  • Developer Pocket Pair Inc. may address leveling system in these future updates.

Palworld players have become increasingly annoyed at the XP grind between levels 40 and 50. One Reddit user noted the leveling curve for those ten levels and how steep they are in comparison to the first 40. It could potentially take players a lot more time than expected to unlock the content hidden in the Palworld end game.

Developed by Pocket Pair Inc., Palworld was released in early access in January 2024. The game is a third-person creature collector that explores the Palpagos Islands to capture and fight against Pals. Upon release, there was much controversy over whether the developer had taken assets directly from recently released Pokemon games and used artificial intelligence during development. There were also criticisms concerning the dark themes of exploitation as part of the gameplay. However, since its initial launch, Palworld has achieved record-breaking total players several different times.

The Reddit user, Blubbpaule, notes in their post that the game's leveling system discourages grinding after reaching Level 40 because of the time it would take to reach Level 50 in Palworld. While it might not actually take 120 hours to complete the task, as the original poster noted, other commenters explained that it really does feel that way. One commenter remarked on the fact that with those XP numbers, leveling to 100 will be nearly impossible when the option becomes available.

Palworld Players Think It's a Tough Grind to Level 50

Much of Palworld's gameplay is spent on grinding, collecting Pals, and creating legendary balls. Unlike other creature collectors like Pokemon, the leveling system and gameplay in Palworld is based on the player's character, not their Pals. Players must keep track of their hunger, craft tools, build bases, and equip Pals with weapons to progress. Some gamers would likely feel like they're hitting a brick wall after working so hard once they reach that slope in the XP curve.

Pocket Pair Inc. has not commented on the state of its game's leveling curve, though an upcoming update or patch fix may be released to combat the leveling curve issue. The developer consistently updates Palworld with new content, adding new gameplay and quality-of-life features. The latest update for Palworld, The Sakurajima update, was released this June and included all-new Pal skins, new meteorite events, the ability to craft and use lockpicks, and more. Pocket Pair Inc. definitely has more up its sleeves, and changing its leveling system might be on the table.
