Palworld's Direhowl is a Neutral-type Pal that has the appearance of an intense and hostile wolf. According to its Paldeck entry, Direhowl once roamed the world alongside humans, working together as a team, but the bond was broken over time. In today's life, Direhowl is an angry Pal that will target anything that gets in its way, attacking with little regard. If it spots players, it will pounce instantly, which makes things tough when they come in packs of two or more.

When captured, Direhowl can be a worthy ally to carry on the Palworld battlefield. Hunting them, on the other hand, brings back a wonderful amount of goods, including rubies and coins. Obtaining rubies is a good way to make quick amounts of coins, which can be used to buy items and other Pals.

Where to Find Direhowl

Direhowl Location in Palworld

Despite its ability to pack a powerful punch, Direhowl can be found in most areas on the map, early into the game. Past the Windswept Hills, Direhowl will be prowling around in packs of two. They shouldn't be too hard to spot once the Marsh Island and Verdant Brook waypoints become available. They don't always spawn, so going back and forth between the waypoint and the base should eventually prompt them to show up.

They have a very hostile nature, so be prepared with a bow and plenty of arrows to keep them at bay. Depleting their health from afar while slowly closing the distance for the catch is the ideal method to catch these beasts, as close-range combat against this duo could be rough.

Direhowl also spawn at nighttime too, along with Dark Pals like Daedream and Hoocrates. They'll likely attack their fellow Pals in the area, so be sure to use stealth to get in close and surprise them with a Pal Sphere from behind for better catching odds.

As expected, Palworld's Pal elements are strikingly similar to the Pokemon franchise's Pokemon types, both in name and mechanics.

Direhowl's Work Suitability

What's Direhowl Good for?

palworld direhowl paldeck-2

Back at the base, Direhowl doesn't offer much to assist with the work, maintaining a Work Suitability of just a level one gathering. It's best to keep this Pal in the team or locked away in the database for future use, as the spots reserved for hard workers are better spent on those who can be of more service.

Fortunately, Direhowl's Partner Skill, Direhowl Rider, is a fantastic one to utilize. It acts the same as most other mounts, but Direhowl's speed is greater than everyone else. Dashing still burns out stamina, but players will be zipping across the map in no time. Direhowl's Saddle unlocks at Player Level 9 and costs one Technology Point.

Direhowl in Combat

Is Direhowl Strong?

direhowl palworld base

In the early game, Direhowl is among one of the better Neutral-type Pals available. It can hit quite hard, has good versatility for moves, and can land attacks in quick succession. What makes it a duo threat is its ability to take the player out of danger if the battle becomes too tough, and no enemy foe will be able to catch it. Here's a closer look at Direhowl's move pool.

  • Fierce Fang: Direhowl leaps at an enemy and uses its fangs to bite down. This is Direhowl's special skill.
  • Sand Blast: This move hurls mud at the enemy, and has a charge time of four seconds with a damage output of 40.
  • Air Cannon: Fires a burst of high-pressure air. It charges in two seconds but has a smaller damage output of 25.
  • Power Shot: Creates a bundle of energy before hurling it at the enemy. It charges every four seconds and does 35 damage.
  • Ignis Blast: A fire-type move involving a ball of fire thrown into the enemy. It charges in two seconds and does 30 damage.
  • Power Bomb: Launches a destructive ball of energy at the foe. This one takes 15 seconds to charge and does 70 damage.
  • Pal Blast: Direhowl's strongest move. It takes 55 seconds to charge, but this large beam of energy causes 150 damage.

Direhowl could be worth investing time in breeding one with fantastic stats and using the Statue of Power to increase them even further. While Neutral-type Pals don't have any advantage over other types, Direhowl's utility of transportation across the map and ability to attack quickly and with a good amount of power makes it a good option for early-game progression.
