Palworld's Mau is a Dark-type Pal with an Egyptian cat-like appearance, detailed with golden features on its ears, face and body. Mau can be discovered in both the early and late game, and offer players with their first look at the Dark type. Not particularly the strongest of its type, nor does it pose much of a threat to catch, Mau does have one very useful resource that makes it worth catching multiples of.

Mau drops coins upon defeat, making it one of the Pals roaming Palworld that ignite players with glee. Finding multiples of them is a good way to stockpile currency, which players can then use in the game's stock market system, or put towards building a second base. On the other hand, catching them would bring more return in the long run, as their Partner Skill can be worth the investment.

Where to Find Mau

Currently, there is only one place to find Mau: the dungeons of Palworld. While some Pals that roam the dungeon can be found around some areas outdoors, Mau are centralized in the depths of dungeons. Mau can be easily found once entering a room, as they typically walk around in groups of two. Be aware that once they spot the player in their vicinity, they will try to flee. Mau can run quickly, and are evasive, sometimes leaving the room they spawned in and disappearing into the abyss.

Mau spawn points are both a blessing and a curse, as tracking them down is as easy as locating a dungeon and entering it, but finding a Mau isn't guaranteed. Dungeons don't stay in the same spot forever, so finding them and taking them down over and over could lead to minimal success. It's best to catch them while they show up, otherwise leaving the cave and re-entering will reset the spawned Pals.

It is up to the player's discretion whether they choose to defeat them and collect the coins or preserve their existence and use them to farm money consistently. While the former is quicker, the latter can prove to be more profitable over a longer duration of time.

What's Mau Good for?

Money. Mau is simply a resource to generate an endless flow of coins. All that is needed for this, besides Mau, is to build a ranch and assign Mau to work on it's task. Mau's skills revolve solely around farming, so they will enter the ranch and begin digging for coins, offering the player a few coins on occasion. Drop a few Mau into the ranch, and it's time to start a savings account.

Coins can be used for the stock market and shop in the Small Settlement area. The stock market involves a listing of several Pals, with a price tag that is generated at random. Sometimes, players can get lucky and land a Pal that is missing from their Paldeck for cheap, while other times a Lamball could go for 7,000 coins. The shop for all item needs, including Pal Spheres, cooking items, and building mechanics.

Is Mau Strong?

Mau won't be the ace Pal that pushes a team past tough battles. In fact, it's not much of an attacker at all. Mau has a decent move set that utilizes its Dark typing, while adding some variety as well, but lacks the strength required to take advantage of it. It is one of the first of its type that players will encounter, so the allure is there to give it a test run and see what it can do. Here are the moves a Mau typically comes with.

Dark Ball: Mau leaps back before hurling an energy ball of dark matter into the enemy Pal.

Sand Blast: Mau blasts the enemy Pal with a wave of sand, causing it to become temporarily stunned.

Mau's design and mixture of Dark and Ground-type moves will lead some to make it a part of their team, but it's true worth will come with lining up the player's pocket for future use. Mau's Ground-type move is nice, but adding a Rushoar to the team is clearly a better option, while other Dark-type Pals are also available in dungeons. Stick Mau in a ranch and profit from the big financial return.
