In Palworld, there are over one hundred different Pals to discover, collect, and train. However, not every Pal is as easily found as others. Some Pals are much harder to find in the wild, or even exclusive to being obtained through breeding and Egg hatching. Among the Pals that can take a bit of time to obtain, there is Katress. Katress is a popular Pal due to its design and useful abilities.

However, obtaining this Pal can take a bit of time, as the lowest they will be found is either around the level 20 mark or in Large Dark Eggs. Katress also has a habitat that is quite a way off from the starting point on the first island, so if you've set up your Base, it might take a bit to travel over and locate one. For this reason, it may be much easier to obtain Katress through the breeding method, so knowing the pairing matchups and requirements is important.

How to Breed Katress in Palworld

In Palworld, players may want to obtain Katress for a number of different reasons, from simply completing the Paldeck or utilizing the skills this Pal has to offer by making it an active member of their team, or a handy Base worker. However, due to Katress spawning at an average of at least level 20, and requiring quite a bit of travel from the initial starting location in Palworld, it may be a while until players can get their hands on this critter. This is where the breeding method comes in handy, enabling players to pair one of several eligible pairs of Pals together at the Breeding Farm to create an Egg that will hatch into Katress.

To use the breeding method to obtain Katress, players will first need to unlock the Breeding Farm craft recipe, which can be purchased for Technology Points from player level 19 and beyond. To craft the Breeding Farm, you will need to unlock this recipe and spend a few resources to build it up into a functioning facility.

The Breeding Farm Can Be Crafted With the Following Resources:

  • Wood x 100
  • Stone x 20
  • Fiber x 50

After building the Breeding Farm, players will then need to cook some Cake and place it on the chest box attached to the Breeding Farm. For each piece of Cake added to this box, you will be able to produce one Egg from breeding. Now, you'll need to use the V key to pick up one male and one female Pal and throw them into the Breeding Farm to assign them to this facility. After a small wait, the pair should produce an Egg, which should spawn as a Large Dark Egg, as long as you have used a male and female Pal from the eligible pairings listed below. Lastly, you'll simply need to place the Egg in an incubator and wait the required amount of time to hatch it, which should reveal a Katress.

For players who are unable to use the breeding method to obtain Katress for whichever reason, you're still in luck. Katress can also be found and caught in the wild, though it may take quite a bit of traveling, depending on where in the world map you chose to set up your Base. As indicated on the world map screenshot below, Katress has a huge habitat scattered throughout the middle-top region of the map, inhabiting several large areas within this location. For the exact areas you should search, feel free to refer to this screenshot, where Katress' known locations have been indicated with light blue markers.

However, it's important to note that Katress can only be hunted during the nighttime in Palworld, as this is the only time of the day in which it is an active spawn. While this does restrict your search to certain in-game hours, Katress has such a large environment in which it roams that you should have no problems tracking one down as long as you stick to your hunt within these areas.

Katress is known to spawn at around the level 20 mark and higher, so you'll need to have a balanced team with a few Pals that are at least the same level or slightly above to ensure you can damage and successfully capture this Pal. Carrying a team too high in level may cause you to accidentally kill Katress off and miss the chance of capture, while carrying an under-leveled team may result in Katress defeating you and forcing you to start your hunt again.

In the case that Katresss is proving difficult to hunt down, there is also a third method that you can use to obtain this Pal. Katress is one of several potential Pals that may be sold by Black Market Merchants you encounter around the islands, so it's worth checking in to view the current stock of among any that you may have located during your adventure as well.

Katress Abilities & Work Skills, Explained

Katress

Katress is both a handy addition to your active team for exploration or a worker at your Base due to the handy skills it has to offer. Katress has three different work skills ranked at level 2, meaning it will be much more efficient than the average Pal at performing these tasks around your Base compared to other creatures. Katress' skills are also three of the most imported and most frequented tasks around building and reinforcing Bases, so having this Pal as one of the selected few assigned will allow you to benefit from its involvement quite strongly.

Katress Work Skills:

  • Handiwork Level 2
  • Medicine Level 2
  • Transporting Level 2

In addition to a decent spread of work skills for Base productivity, Katress can be a valuable member of your active team for exploration around the island due to its Partner Skill, Grimoire Collector. This skill enables Katress to cause double drops when defeating Netural Type Pals as long as it is roaming next to you as your active Pal. This skill makes it highly beneficial for farming certain materials, and can even enable you to earn up to 3x drops.

Toe arn 4x drops with Katress' Grimoire Collector Partner Skill, you will need to capture wild Neutral Pals rather than kill them, as capturing still enables you to receive the same drops that you would by killing them. This will trigger Grimoire Collector and double the amount of resources you obtain, and then you can head to your Base and use a Meat Cleaver to kill the Pal, which gives you another set of drops, enabling you to earn 3x the normal amount of resources from a single Pal at a time. By catching many Neutral Pals through this method, you will be able to quickly and efficiently stockpile many helpful items, which will make crafting significantly more easy in the long run.
